Free Music Notes for Weezer (Red Album) [Deluxe]Free Music Review: What? A lower average rating than Make Believe? Hit: 5 Stars
Wow, I thought this album was a big improvement over Make Believe. I'm surprised how low the average rating is. They really did some good experimentation here. I'm just going to rate the songs by ratings, no explanation. I usually don't write a review on a Weezer album so quickly, but this one needs an added half star!
Troublemaker: 6.5/10
The Greatest Man That Ever Lived: 10/10
Pork and Beans: 10/10
Heart Songs: 8/10
Everybody Get Dangerous: 9/10
Dreamin: 8.5/10 (is really good for the most part, and fizzles strangely at the end)
Thought I Knew: 8.5/10
Cold Dark World: 6.5/10
Automatic: 10/10
The Angel And The One: 10/10
Bonus:
Miss Sweeney: Funny, 9/10
Pig: 9/10
The Spider: 10/10
King: 8/10
Good album, I recommend you at least give it a chance to grow on you before ripping it! Automatic, The Greatest Man, Pork and Beans, The Spider... All great tracks. This is a big step up from the slump they had on Make Believe.
Free Music Review: Weezer's turn. Hit: 5 Stars
In many ways, this album represents Weezer coming full circle. It probably more similar to their first LP (the blue one) than any one released since. But the band doesn't rehash that territory in a vacuum.
Weezer takes some of the best aspects of the bands they've influenced and integrates them into their work. Perhaps more importantly, they take some of the sillier and worse aspects of modern emo and turn it into something that lives between parody and brilliance. If you don't laugh when you first hear Troublemaker, you're listening wrong (I'm teasing); after a listen or three, this song will start to blow you away.
In order to really open up this offering, other band members sing and contribute in more ways. This certainly changes the feel, but the differing vocals add a layer of depth that you never realized was lacking in past releases.
So, if you hear a song that sounds like another band, even a band you're not fond of, take a step back and listen to Weezer's take on the past 14 years.
Free Music Review: As good as ever... Hit: 5 Stars
Wow, great Weezer album. I've been listening to them since the Blue album, so there is no "bad" Weezer album, just the "current favorite", which is usually the one that I've listened to most recently (or Pinkerton)
I think a Weezer fan of the Blue album sound will be pleasantly surprised on several tracks (Heart songs, Pork and Beans, Dreamin', Miss Sweeney). Oh speaking of "Miss Sweeney", what's with this "deluxe edition" crap?! Does it cost them more to fabricate a CD with 4 extra tracks? No? Well, then how about you give them to us for the same price as the "standard edition"? In fact, why even have two editions? Just give everyone every track, mkay? Fans of single songs can buy MP3's from Itunes or Amazon. Thumbs down for the tiered pricing scheme Weezer, thumbs down!
Even songs which are more "rocky" (like Troublemaker and Everybody get Dangerous) are great to listen to...kind of remind me of the edginess I liked in Pinkerton.
Overall, well worth the price.
Free Music Review: My Favorite Yet Hit: 5 Stars
I'm from the generation where high school was highly influenced by Weezer. I loved these guys and they highly affected my life. I wore sweaters all the time and sweater song was kinda my theme song. I love the blue album to this day.
That being said, my tastes have changed as I've gotten older; I also really enjoy good classical and I like catchy songs, Lupe Fiasco's Superstar is a favorite of mine. So I may not be like other Weezer fans, but I Love this album. Real fans of their work will like "dreams". I personally can relate to and like "everybody get dangerous", and "pork and beans" is just catchy. And you know what, I love the variation on a Shaker hymn.
So take everyone's review with their bias in mind. Listen to the songs first and then decide, this album could go either way for anyone from a die hard weezer fan to new fans. Also, I'm sure their songs will continue to mature as the band gets older, if you don't like it then you'll get left behind listening to their old stuff.
Free Music Review: Weezer is back and better than ever! Hit: 5 Stars
This is without a doubt the most creative album Weezer has put out in their career. With diverse genres, various lead singers, and amazing music filling the songs, it is without a doubt a masterpeice.
Some of my favorite tracks are Miss Sweeney, Dreamin', Automatic, and The Greatest Man That Ever Lived. If you espcially like certain albums like Pinkerton and Blue, you will find that certain songs on Red, such as Dreamin' and Greatest Man, are very reminiscent of those records.
I usually dont mention the lyrics on songs being good, but i cant resist. The lyrics are very powerful and exceptional, like in Pig, and combined with the superb music make the album flawless. If you have liked any of their work in the past, you will thoroughly enjoy Red. I also suggest getting Deluxe because if you dont get it you are missing out on some of their best work. This is my highest recommended album!
