Free Music Review: Almost The Best
Hit: 5 Stars

Like you can see in the title above, this is my second favorite only to Running With Scissors. But anyway, let me get to my review.
Smells Like Nirvana is a parody of Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. It is about two minutes shorter than the original, but I still give it a 4/5.
Trigger Happy is a Beaach Boys style song, and might just be the best original tha Al's ever done. I give it 5/5.
I Can't Watch This is a parody of M.C. Hammer's U Can't Touch This. It;s a pretty good parody, opening Al into the rap region. I give it 4/5.
Polka Your Eyes Out is another polka, just another chronicle to the series. But, it does have a small drum solo and also is very catchy. It gets a 4/5.
I Was Only Kidding is a funny original about Al lying to his girlfriend about getting married etc. Pretty godd, 4/5.
The White Stuff is a parody of New Kids On The Block's The Right Stuff, it's just a normal parody about Al loving the oreo filling so much he spreads it on toast. 4/5.
When I Was Your Age is another original about a grandpa telling his grandkid about how rough his childhood was. 4/5
Taco Grande might just be one of the best parodies Al has ever done. It parodies Gerardo's Rico Suave, and is very catchy and tasty. I love it, it gets a 5/5.
Airline Amy is an original about Al falling in love with an airplane stewardess. 4/5
The Plumbing Song is a Parody of Milli Vanilli's Baby Don't Forget My Number and Blame It On The Rain. Al fits the extra part very well into the song. It gets a 5/5
You Don't Love Me Anymore is an anti-love original about Al's spouse getting angry and doing weird stuff to him. Completely distasteful, 3/5.
It's a pretty good CD, with good originals and parodies and ultimatley relaunched Al's career. I give the CD a 5/5.

Free Music Review: I really love NOT!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Al goes "Off The Deep End" with his 1992 release. This Al-bum contains seven great songs, three good songs, and two mediocre/bad songs.

1. Smells Like Nirvana - 5/5. Who can't love this one?
2. Trigger Happy - 5/5. Has very creative and funny lyrics about gun control. Hilarious tribute to the Beach Boys.
3. I Can't Watch This - 4/5. Pretty good, but "Couch Potato" is better.
4. Polka Your Eyes Out - 3/5. Not his best polka.
5. I Was Only Kidding - 5/5. A great "hate" song.
6. The White Stuff - 2/5. I was never a fan of the original.
7. When I Was Your Age - 5/5. Hilarious random lyrics with a great rock tune. Love it.
8. Taco Grande - 4/5. Another good one. Cheech Marin says the Spanish monologue in the middle of the song.
9. Airline Amy - 4/5. The only Weird Al "love" song that does not involve death, destruction, suicide, depression, or torture... until "Wanna B Ur Lovr" came along on "Poodle Hat"... but still. Has a good tune, also.
10. The Plumbing Song - 5/5. Underrated. A great tune with funny lyrics.
11. You Don't Love Me Anymore - 5/5. Another classic "hate" sone from Al. Beautifully disgusting.
12. Bite Me - 5/5. This "hidden track" is placed 10 minutes after You Don't Love Me Anymore. It's 7 seconds of Al screaming, the band playing, and genius circling through your speakers. Just don't neglect the CD after it's over, or you'll be in for a sick surprise! The partner of You Don't Love Me Anymore and Bite Me make this the sickest ending to an Al-bum ever.

So, "OTDE" is worth owning for "Smells Like Nirvana", "Trigger Happy", "I Was Only Kidding", "When I Was Your Age", "The Plumbing Song", "You Don't Love Me Anymore", and "Bite Me".

Free Music Review: Al's Best CD
Hit: 5 Stars

What is best about this CD is WHO Al parodies--a perfect snapshot of the 80's/90's threshold. He begins with a parody of Nirvana, among the most influential band of the 90s--making fun of how no one can understand their lyrics. The other four groups he parodies, Milli Vanilli, McHammer, New Kids on the Block, and Gerardo (Who?), are all pretty much washed up and laughable by today's standards, prime material for VH1's Behind the Music. Don't forget Vanilla Ice, who's "Ice Ice Baby" wraps up "Polka Your Eyes Out"--the compliation song which also is a wonderful picture of the music scene, circa 1990. There is another snapshot--of early 90s television--in "I Can't Watch This." From the song's use of "I've fallen and I can't get up" to talking about "America's Funniest Home Videos"--Yankovic is right on target. What I love is how Yakovic uses the contrast between the background music and his lyrics--most effective on (first) "Trigger Happy," which sounds like a parody of a Beach Boys song, coupled with a causual point-of-view of a gun addict. "Why'd you have get so mad/It was just a lousy flesh wound dad"--Hilarious! And (second) "You Don't Love me Anymore" is the most tender-sounding ballad he's released, but it is paired with a horrifying (but funny) relationship--one that makes Glenn Close's bunny-boiling in "Fatal Attraction" look tame.

Just writing this review makes me want to go listen to the CD again. If you only buy one or two "Weird Al" CDs, make this be one of them. If you have a sense of humor, you will enjoy it.

Free Music Review: More of "Weird Al"'s parodies and spoofs
Hit: 5 Stars

Around 1991,"Weird Al" Yankovic returned to the studio after the release of EVEN WORSE three years earlier. His independent label,Rock And Roll, was now defunct but not the CBS-owned Scotti Brothers that controlled it. This 1992 release is Yankovic's debut on SB. Yankovic does a spoof of Nirvana's NEVERMIND album, only it's Al pursuing a donut on a fishing hook. Al parodies Nirvana's SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT with SMELLS LIKE NIRVANA. By the way, this album's title treatment is exactly the same as NEVERMIND. TRIGGER HAPPY,a Yankovic original,is a spoof of The Beach Boys and Jan & Dean. Another great television parody is I CAN'T WATCH THIS,used with the music from M.C. Hammer's 1990 hit rap U CAN'T TOUCH THIS("TV makes me so bored, makes me wanna say,'Oh,my lord, what is this garbage here?',wanna cover my eyes and plug up my ears!"). The music was co-written by the late funk-rocker Rick James. UCTT and ICWT both contain musical samples of James' 1981 hit SUPER FREAK. Another polka medley, this one entitled POLKA YOUR EYES OUT,features covers of R.E.M.'s LOSING MY RELIGION,Billy Idol's CRADLE OF LOVE,Motley Crue's DR. FEELGOOD,Janet Jackson's MISS YOU MUCH,the B-52's LOVE SHACK,Vanilla Ice's ICE ICE BABY and a few others. Other Yankovic originals include the hard-rocking I WAS ONLY KIDDING,WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE which I love,AIRLINE AMY and another James Taylor spoof,YOU DON'T LOVE ME ANYMORE. Another food parody is THE WHITE STUFF,referring to the center frostings in Nabisco's Oreo cookies. TWS's music is the same as the New Kids On The Block recording YOU GOT IT(THE RIGHT STUFF). Other great parodies are TACO GRANDE and THE PLUMBING SONG.

Free Music Review: Everyone Into the Pool!
Hit: 5 Stars

Al's the King of Parodies, so let's start off with those. "Smells Like Nirvana" is one of the crown jewels in his collection. Not only is the band dead on music-wise (when the song starts, lots of people can't tell it from the original "Smells Like Teen Spirit"), but Al pulls off the neat trick of mocking the original song, namely its incoherent lyrics."Taco Grande" is also noteworthy in that it is superior to its inspiration "Rico Suave". You remember Rico Suave, don't you?

Most of the original songs are winners as well. "Trigger Happy" is bubbly beach rock coupled with insane lyrics. Sort of like Frankie and Annette meet the NRA with a nod from Michael Moore. Likewise, "You Don't Love Me Anymore" is actually quite beautiful. That is, until you hear how his true love subtly tries to break up with him ("You're still the light of my life/Oh darling, I'm beggin', won't you put down that knife?"). Be warned, it contains a "hidden track". I hadn't noticed until I set up a playlist of Al's love songs. After a few minutes of silence we are treated to Al's impersonation of a man with three rabid squirrels in his boxer shorts. And the compilation "Polka Your Eyes Out" twists the tempos of then-current songs, making "Cradle of Love" peppy, and "Humpty Dance" a lounge act.

Really the only dud on this album is "Airline Amy". Al and the band are wasted on this track: the lyrics aren't particularly funny, and the music is pop-rock fluff. But even that isn't enough to dim this gem.
