Free Music Review: This Looks Like The Cover Of Nirvana
Hit: 5 Stars

Following his exposure in the mid-'80s, Weird Al Yankovic's career stumbled with the poor-selling Polka Party in 1986 and his feature film UHF that tanked in 1989. Clearly, many people had grown tired of Yankovic's presence, just as they'd grown tired of the artists he was satirizing. Thus his chance for a comeback came in 1992, when Nirvana stormed the scene with "Smells Like Teen Sprit," a song that turned the music world upside down and ended the careers of many of the artists Yankovic had once used to heighten his success. Not too surprisingly, "Smells Like Nirvana" was the first single off of Off the Deep End, Yankovic's first album in three years. The song, which pokes fun at the original version's incoherent lyrics, was a smash hit, and not undeservingly - it reveals the kind of brilliant writing Yankovic was still capable of doing. Though no other parody on the album matches the cleverness of "Smells Like Nirvana," satires such as "I Can't Watch This" and "Taco Grande" come quite close. In addition to re-establishing his satirical craftsmanship, Deep End showcases some of Yankovic's best originals ever; "Trigger Happy," "When I Was Your Age," and "You Don't Love Me Anymore" prove to be the album's greatest songs. As his best album since In 3-D, Off the Deep End is the answer to those who questioned Yankovic's credibility as an evolving artist.

Free Music Review: Hilarious!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one of my favorite albums put out by Al.

Smells Like Nirvana - 10/10 - Hilarious parody of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit. People, don't listen to anyone else. Al is not "basically saying screw Kurt Cobain". In fact, the two surviving members of the group, when they heard this parody, loved it.

Trigger Happy - 10/10 - Very funny original song written by Al.

I Can't Watch This - 8/10 - Reason why I gave a lower score is because I never really liked MC Hammer. But, this is still a good parody.

Polka Your Eyes Out! - 10/10 - Another great polka medley.

I Was Only Kidding - 10/10 - Ha ha ha ha!!!

The White Stuff - 10/10 - Very funny parody of New Kids on the Block's The Right Stuff.

When I Was Your Age - 10/10 - Very funny original song about when Al was our age. =P

Taco Grande - 10/10 - Hilarious parody of Rico Suave by Gerardo.
Cheech Marin is great in it.

Airline Amy - 8/10 - Pretty funny original song.

The Plumbing Song - 10/10 - One of my favorite Al songs. Very, very funny.

You Don't Love Me Anymore - 100/10 - The funniest song I've ever heard(besides Wanna B Ur Lvr, on Poodle Hat). Al had written this after his breakup with his then girlfriend.

"Weird Al" Yankovic is a genious(proven by the fact he graduated valedvictorian at 16 years old from high school).

Free Music Review: Off the Deep End: a good place to begin converting to Al-ism
Hit: 5 Stars

I was introduced to the world of Weird Al by a friend, who loaned me this album. Immediately after I returned it to him, I rushed out and bought my own copy. Why? Weird Al's brand of magic has transformed a previously un-musicked person into an avid listener.
Weird Al's incredible parody and satire continues in Off the Deep End, in my opinion his best album so far (second perhaps only to Even Worse). This song features a stunning line-up of Weird Al goodness. The moment you put the CD in, "Smells Like Nirvana" (parody of "Smells Like Team Spirit"; the music similarity is obvious) will draw you in. "Trigger Happy" is a treat of humor (perfect for your next America's First Right gun club meeting). "Polka Your Eyes Out", like any other Al polka medley, gets a bit zany, but it's fun to try and pick out the snatches of songs comprising it. I keep reminding myself to play "When I Was Your Age" to my kids (if I get around to that point).
Weird Al is a great pick for anyone in the mood. If you're a stern, sit-on-sticks person, or are rabidly devoted to any particular band that Weird Al mocks, you might want to steer clear. But if you need a dose of humor and good tunes rolled into one, pick up a Weird Al album.

Free Music Review: Al Goes Off The Deep End
Hit: 5 Stars

Let me say this is Al's funniest and best album. I have it on CD and cassette! My fave track is "Smells Like Nirvana". It's also one of the best videos ever. I love every single track on here. "When I Was Your Age" is the second-best track on here. It made me fall on the floor when I heard it. "Trigger Happy" is a song that would make any parent terrified. I like "You Don't Love Me Anymore", another song about a bad girlfriend. The track at the very end (CD-Only) is called "Bite Me", approx. 8 seconds of Al screaming like a maniac. Other goodies are "The White Stuff", a track I love 'cause I'm an Oreo fanatic. "I Can't Watch This" is a track I can relate to. It's the best TV song besides "Jerry Springer" and "Talk Soup". A favorite is "Taco Grande", 'cause I love Mexican food. This is my favorite CD EVER of ALL TIME! If you do not have this CD, buy it RIGHT NOW!

Free Music Review: Nirvana fans, get off your high horse
Hit: 5 Stars

Nirvana is ripe for parody just as any band is, and "Smells Like Nirvana" is a great song (Kurt Cobain and his band loved it, did you ever hear about that?). It is absolutely hilarious, just like "(This Song's Just) Six Words Long" on Even Worse. Nirvana should not be placed on a pedestal, and Weird Al proves that; isn't it obvious by now that nothing is sacred for him? Not that Nirvana is the greatest band ever, but that is not a factor for my decision because I love George Harrison's music too but died laughing when I heard Al's send-up.
Also, the fact that this album has "You Don't Love Me Anymore" elevates it almost to the level of Polka Party, which has nestled in its tracks "Living With a Hernia" and "Christmas at Ground Zero." But "Smells Like Nirvana" is a stroke of genius, espcially the gargling during the guitar solo and the marbles, so quit bashing Al and loosen up; it's only music.
