Free Music Notes for Running With ScissorsFree Music Review: One of Al's best albums Hit: 5 Stars
It's hard to believe Weird Al Yankovich has been at it for over 20 years now. "Running with Scissors is the follow up to the mega popular album "Bad Hair Day." A lot of expectations where put out and Al doesn't disappoint us.Al give us a good mixture of new material and parodies. The one knock that can be said against the paraodies is the lateness in a lot of them. The Saga Begins is a hilarious song. It came out a little to late after Star Wars Episode One. Al didn't get the MTV exposure like he did on Amish Paradise and the song flopped in that area. The song however is great writing by Al and is quite funny. It goes along great to American Pie and is one of the better parodies written by Al. It's All About the Pentiums is a fantastic song. The one knock again is how late Al was with this song. If he had put this out right after Puffy had lost some of his popularity instead of a year this could have been a hit. The internet had also lost some it's mystic awe by this point and was available in more homes. The song however is great songwriting and Al proves again he is rap. It's got some great computer dialogue. Grapefruit Diet is a great song. Al does a perfect job writing a perfect paraody. Everything sounds good and its a perfect parody of Zoot Suit Riot by Cherry Poppin Daddies. I didn't like Germs. Why do you go out and paraody Nine Inch Nails at this point. Nobody is talking about them anymore. Why parody Offspring at this point. Pretty Fly for a White Guy was so overplayed on the radio and people were sick of it. Pretty Fly for a Rabbi is a wasted song. It's good song writing that will only be appreciated by his fans and not all of the public. The new material is good. I love the polka song. It's got a lot of hits from the late 90's from semi-sonic to the spice girls and more. Jerry Springer is a great song and it's one I think should have gotten some radio play. Al could have had a field day if he had made a video for this song. Albuquerque is one of the funniest songs Al has written. It's over 11 minutes long and is full of great lines and plenty of energy. Thi is a fantastic album. It's got lots of great material. I wish the album had come out earlier though. This could have such a big album, but despite that I love it. It's funny and has lots of great songs. Mad props to Al for making a great album.
Free Music Review: The Weird Al Saga Continues... Hit: 5 Stars
'Weird Al' Yankovic has been one of the only artists (the most popular for that matter) to do pop parades and get away with it. Since his early days spoofing Micheal Jackson hits into such Weird Al classics as "Eat It" and "Fat", to his newest album packed full of that delightful and hilariously funny sound that we all know Al for. The album opens with "The Saga Continues", a hilarious parady that has Al telling the whole plot for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in front of the music for Don McClean's deeply personal hit "American Pie". After this is a hilarious parady (i'm not sure what it's a parady of) that has Al singing about his 'baby' being in love with Eddie Veddar. "Pretty Fly For A Rabbi" is the hilarious parady of Offspring's "Pretty Fly For A White Guy". "The Weird Al Show Theme" is still funny, but i'm not sure why it was included to be on this album. "Jerry Springer" is so funny i couldn't stop listening to it. It's the parady of Barenaked Ladies hit "One Week" that talks about the Jerry Springer show. "Germs" really isn't Al's best work, plus it's outdated by about eight or nine years (a Nine Inch Nails parady doesn't really come off that funny, anyway). "Polka Power" is that funny mix of pop songs redone by Al himself. This is a highlight of the album because Al makes these sometimes very serious songs hilariously funny to listen to. "That's Your Horoscope For Today" is excellent, i think there should be another one of these on Al's next album. "All About The Pentiums" is a very funny parady of Puff Daddy & The Bad Boy Family's "All About The Benjamins". The truck driving song is so funny, i couldn't stop laughing. "Grape Fruit Diet" is another song about being fat, but Al always makes these funny as hell. The last song is the outrageaously funny 11 minute long "Albuaquake" (i might have spelled that wrong). For all you Al fans out there, i hope you enjoyed my review of "Running With Scissors".
Free Music Review: Secret hidden computer file on this great album Hit: 5 Stars
This twelve track album Running With Scissors by the master of music "Weird Al" Yankovic has an unexpected bonus. It also contains a surprise which you find by putting the CD in your disc drive clicking on my computer then the aptly named labelled secret folder. You will discover a 14 and a half minute film about "Weird Al"'s life as he visits his parents and grandad. You also get to see the band on the road with an hilarious look at room service. You know the film is going to be funny when it starts off in a limo and Al's body guards tell him they will have to debrief him and they rip his underwear out from his pants (parents note it is tasteful there is no nudity). Also read the Read Me file it has Al's classic humour as well. The actual music tracks on the album would not be his greatest songs ever written although the album is still better than any non "Weird Al" album. If you're a Star Wars fan then The Saga Begins track is a must for you giving you an extremely detailed plot of the Episode I film. Too bad George Lucas didn't get "Weird Al" to write the actual movie then it might actually have been worth watching. The non parody songs aren't as brilliant as on other albums but are still a good laugh such as Your Horoscope For Today. I think the track Albuquerque was trying to cash in on the successful cult followed track The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota from the UHF soundtrack album but although similar in length of time is not as catchy music wise or as funny, but it still is funny. There are some good parodies such as It's All About the Pentiums a parody of Puffy's It's All About the Benjamins and Pretty Fly For a Rabbi (parody of Pretty Fly for a White Guy) is also excellent. Jerry Springer (parody of One Week) is an excellent description of the actual show and hilarious. If you're only going to buy one "Weird Al" compact disc buy one of his earlier ones, but if you're like most people once you have one you have to have them all. There's enough humour on here to more than cover the cost and the hidden film clip is worth buying this CD for alone.
Free Music Review: It's All About the Pentiums, Baby! Hit: 5 Stars
Weird Al is the master of parodies, and his brilliant and creative songs are so refreshing in the day of Boy Bands and other Bubblegum music! He is so wacky and crazy (in concerts especially) and incredibly humorous and talented! RWS is a very energetic album that I absolutely adore! To start off, "The Saga Begins," perfectly grasps the plot of "Star Wars, Episode I, The Phantom Menace," and it is a nearly perfect parody of the fairly serious and sentimental "American Pie." It is such a fun song to listen to and sing along with. It is one of the major standouts of this CD. The next track, "My Baby's in Love With Eddie Vedder," shows how musically talented Al truly is, not to mention it is hysterical, especially for those familiar with Pearl Jam. "Polka Power!" is another one of Al's classic upbeat polkas using bits of popular songs and combining them into a fast polka medley. You've got to love that one! "Jerry Springer," a parody of "One Week," is an account of an obsessed fan of the dramatized talk show. It is another catchy and equally funny song! One of my personal favorites, "It's All About the Pentiums," is an insight into the world of computer technology. It is filled with some of Al's greatest lyrics, such as, "Got a flat-screen monitor 40" wide, I believe that yours says "Etch-A-Sketch" on the side," and it never gets stale! Al's food-related track on this CD is "Grapefruit Diet," which is musically wonderful, but I prefer the lyrics of "Fat" any day! "Pretty Fly For a Rabbi," a parody of "Pretty Fly For a White Guy," is totally hilarious, especially for those who know a bit about Jewish culture. "Albuquerque," Al's zaniest and longest song ever is a fabulous conclusion to the album, and you will hear new things every time you listen to it! I recommend this CD to anyone who is ready for a great laugh, especially to those who are familiar with the songs Al parodies, and of course to fans of Weird Al. You should already have this CD; it's essential for all the Weird Al worshippers out there like me!
Free Music Review: He's Still Got It! Hit: 5 Stars
This is an excellent new album of funny songs and parody's from the king of parodys, "Weird Al" Yankovic. This is probably my second favorite CD by him, my first being Bad Hair Day. The tracks are: "THE SAGA BEGINS": A new classic by Weird Al. A very creative parody of the classic "American Pie" using the entire plot from the new Star Wars movie. He does it so well. "MY BABY'S IN LOVE WITH EDDIE VEDDER": Not the best on this CD, but it's got a nice beat you can stand listening to once or twice. "PRETTY FLY FOR A RABBI": Very funny Offspring parody and it's one of my favorites on here. "WEIRD AL SHOW THEME": This is an added bonus taken from his short-lived show. I love this song because it's fun to try to sing it. "JERRY SPRINGER": Another hilarious song parodying Barenaked Ladies and making fun of the TV show at the same time. "GERMS": This one kind of grows on you (like a fungus). This song is really well done when it's seen performed by Weird Al himself in concert. "POLKA POWER!": In my opinion, one of his best polkas. It's got a lot of good songs that he puts in it and just butchers, but it's really funny. Especially hearing him do Marilyn Manson. Scary. "YOUR HOROSCOPE FOR TODAY": A very funny original that goes really fast and is really fun to try to sing along with. "IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PENTIUMS": Not my favorite, but it's better than I expected, since I don't like rap. He's made a rap song that I can actually listen to more than once and not get a headache. "TRUCK DRIVIN' SONG": Eh, it's okay. It's funny when you hear it the first time, but it kind of gets dull after a while. "GRAPEFRUIT DIET": Another song about being fat to the tune of "Zoot Suite Riot" and it's pretty funny. "ALBURQUERQUE": Another kind of added bonus to this CD because it's not really a song, it's an eleven minute stand up comedy kind of sketch, which is really entertaining to listen to. A wonderful must-have AL-bum for fans.
