Free Music Notes for Running With Scissors

Free Music Review: Brilliant!
Hit: 5 Stars

This cd is great, no doubt worth buying. Although the disc doesn't say this, it is an enhanced cd, which means that if you put it in to your computer's (Mac or Windows) CD-Rom drive, it will be capable of playing some video clips, this one a 14:34 minute film, which is immensly entertaining. Too bad you can't play it as a vcd in your dvd player. Funny stuff.
As for the al-bum:

1. The Saga Begins 5/5 It tells the whole story of Star Wars: Episode one in five and a half minutes.
2. My Baby's in love with Eddie Vedder 3/5 Pretty funny.
3. Pretty Fly For A Rabbi 5/5 Weird Al shows that he knows how to make fun of religion, yet not be offensive or rude. Very nicely crafted.
4. The Weird Al show theme 5/5 During a low point in his career after UHF, Weird Al had his own childrens show on CBS (DVD?). This is the slightly-over-a-minute theme.
5. Jerry Springer: 5/5 All you'll ever know, and all you'll ever need to know about Jerry Springer, plus a Parody of "One Week."
6. Germs 3/5 Good the first time song about a guy obsessed with germs.
7. Polka Power! 4/5 Ups and downs
8. Your Horoscope For Today: 5/5 What horoscopes SHOULD say.
9. It's All About the Pentiums: 5/5 "Play me online, weel you'll know that I'll beat you. If I ever meat you, I'll control-alt-delete you."
10. Truck Driving Song: 3/5 Some funny stuff.
11. Grapefruit Diet: 4/5 "Who's that waddling down the street? That's just me cause I love to eat."
12. Albuquerque: 5/5 Eleven and a half minutes of hilarity in which the ending is so roundabout and funny that you'll be thinking about it for a while. And for the last time, he hates sauerkraut.
That is 52/60, or about 4.5, yet it deserves a 5 for some excellent tracks, mainly the last one.

I eagerly await Al's "Poodle Hat," in stores May 20. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and feel free to leave me a helpful/not helpful feedback. God Bless America!

Free Music Review: I...HATE...SAUERKRAUT!! But love Al...
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay, I guess the best way to go about this is to... review the CD. Okay, really, I'm just going to go through the songs and rate them.

1. The Saga Begins-- 4/5-- I like this song a lot, but the beginning's a little slow, and if I'm just not in the mood, I skip right over it. It's one of those songs, ya know.
2. My Baby's In Love With Eddie Vedder-- 4/5-- Another song I really like, but it's really not too funny, and gets old after a while.
3. Pretty Fly for a Rabbi-- 5/5-- I love it! A parody of 'Pretty Fly for a White Guy' and very funny at that.
4. 'Weird Al Show' Theme-- 5/5-- Call me crazy, but I like the complete zaniness of the lyrics.
5. Jerry Springer-- 4/5-- Probably the most vulgar (but not too bad) song on the album, mostly for the first chorus. This is a really funny song, though, and well worth listening to.
6. Germs-- 3/5-- Another song that gets old after the 11th listen (I counted.)
7. Polka Power!-- 5/5-- I really like this song. Excellent way to medley a bunch of very different songs! POWER TO THE POLKA!
8. Your Horoscope for Today-- 5/5-- The greatest, strangest horoscopes you'll ever read. Mine still hasn't come true, tho...
9. It's All About the Pentiums-- 4/5-- Very good, but it just doesn't seem like it belongs on the album...
10. Truck Drivin' Song-- 3/5-- Pretty funny after a while, but by then it's just painful to listen to.
11. Grapefruit Diet-- 3/5-- I don't doubt the quality of the song; I just don't care for it. (Is it any coincidence that I can't stand grapefruit??)
12. Albuquerque-- 5/5-- Ah, sweet ABQ. A great ending to a great album, though more spoken than sung.

Overall-- 46/60. If it weren't for those few tracks it would have been a perfect 6-0 in my book!

Free Music Review: Get this CD!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

After a mediocre "Bad Hair Day" in which I only liked two or three songs, I was more than hesitant to get "Running With Scissors". I wasn't sure if I'd like anything on it. I was dead wrong! This CD is hilarious. Although I haven't seen Star Wars Chapter 1 (or whatever it is), "The Saga Begins" is hilarious but very clever. It basically summarizes the entire movie -- so much so that you don't even have to see it after hearing this song. Weird Al also brilliantly pokes fun at all of its contradictions and silliness, while paying tribute to a great director. Being Jewish, I wasn't sure how I would've reacted to "Pretty Fly for a Rabbi". Let me tell you this: this song is not only funny, but it's true to a great extent. Weird Al also has a great use of Yiddish, saying "tuchos" not "tukos" for rear end. That made all the difference! This song is my favorite on the album. Another fabulous song is his parody of Jerry Springer. Using the Barenaked Ladies' "One Week", he was able to fit in ALL of the craziness associated with this show. This song is just plain hilarious. "My Baby's in Love with Eddie Vedder" is also hilarious, especially Weird Al's cynicism with the "depressed" superstar. Not only does this song have a great melody, but he pokes fun at the talentless and those attracted to it....something I've been waiting to hear for years! I don't know why someone didn't like "Truck Drivin' Song". Yes, it's silly, but who can't appreciate someone with enough guts to metaphorically combine Johnny Cash with RuPaul? Overall, this CD is fabulous. It is a breath of fresh air from the stench that is called "alternative" music. It's also filled with talent and intellect, which, in today's world of music, is very hard to come by. Please get this album!!!!! You won't be sorry.

Free Music Review: Still funny after all these years
Hit: 5 Stars

Weird Al's music [and his concerts] are so much fun and so energetic [and so slyly funny on serious listening], I'd encourage anyone to jump into his music with both feet. When I've had a lot of stress in my life, his songs [and shows] become an oasis of goofy exuberance in a tough world. I heard one of the "Poodle Hat" songs last year at a brief concert stint in Orange County, "Party At The Leper Colony". I loved it from the first hearing. It's got a good beat and you can dance to it, even in your seat [rackafrackasecurityguards<g>]. The imagery in the song is just so surreal and funny that it transcends any sense of goriness in it. [It is only a little gory.] I can't wait for Poodle Hat!

The initial songs that caught me when I first heard Running with Scissors were "It's All About The Pentiums" and "The Saga Begins", the two songs also covered in videos. They are still funny and sharp even after hundred of times listening to it in my sometimes long commutes. Over time, many of the others have worked my way into my heart, especially his original songs. I was OK with "Your Horoscope For Today" at first but over the last year it has become one of my favorites. Its absurdism speaks to me. Although the lyrics for "My Baby's In Love With Eddie Vedder" are tied to an earlier time now, the sheer energy of the zydeco music can't help but lift my spirits.

Running With Scissors has been good for my health. Weird Al makes good preventative therapy for road rage, especially on the southbound I-5 at 9 AM. I used to work in East Los Angeles, a not-so-safe area, and would often leave work after dark. I would sing the theme to "The Weird Al Show" as I walked to the parking lot. Everybody left me alone when I did that. ;-)

Free Music Review: Al Doesn't Disappoint
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a great Weird Al CD. Al doesn't disappoint and this may be his best album yet. I going to break it down and rating every song on a scale of 1 to 27.

The Saga Begins - This is a parody of "American Pie". Al sings another Star Wars song and while in my opinion it's not as good as Yoda it's still good. Rating: 23

My Baby's In Love With Eddie Vedder - Al sings a song about a jealous guy whose girlfriend falls in love with Eddy Vedder. Rating: 18

Pretty Fly For A Rabbi - Parody of "Pretty Fly For A White Guy". Al sings about a rabbi who really knows his shtick. Rating: 20

Weird Al Show Theme - The theme song to Al's short lived Saturday morning TV show. We learn Al really makes a mighty fine
Jellybean and Pickle sandwich (for what it's worth). Rating 24

Jerry Springer - Parody of "One Week". Al sings about everyone's favorite trash TV show. Rating: 19

Germs - A song about... germs. Probably my least favorite on this disc but still good. Rating: 16

Polka Power - One of Al's polka melodies. Rating: 21

Your Horoscope For Today - Al takes the funny idea of fake horoscopes and runs with it. The result, hilarity! Rating: 25

All About The Pentiums - Parody of "All About The Benjamin's". A song all about computers. Being a geek, this is one of my favorites. Rating: 26

Truck Driving Song - A strange, strange song that could have only come from the mind of Weird Al. Rating: 19

Grapefruit Diet - Parody of "Zoot Suit Riot". Al sings about a fat guy that goes on a Grapefruit Diet. It kind of felt like Al was trying to use some the fat jokes left-over from when he wrote "Fat". Rating: 18

Albuquerque - My favorite song on this album. There's really nothing I can say to describe it but trust me it's good. Rating 27
