Free Music Review: Westlife...2006! Hit: 4 Stars
Many fans were disappointed when they heard that "Love Album" will be an album of covers, but I wasn't one of them! I know that this album will be as great as Westlife's previous albums because you can't really go wrong with covers, since Westlife (or their managers) will pick the BEST OF THE BEST SONGS! Well, I was almost right...
Some of the songs I enjoy on this album are "Total Eclipse of the Heart", "Have You Ever Been In Love", "The Dance", and "All Or Nothing". Mark performed really well overall, while Shane did well also, except at some time his voice is really rasp. Nicky and Kian are M.I.A. in most parts of the album, but in "Love Can Build A Bridge", fans can enjoy their beautiful voices.
I didn't really enjoy "You Are So Beautiful (To Me)" or "You Light Up My Life", I think they should've substituted these songs with the B-side's "If" and "Nothing Is Going To Change My Love For You", because 1st, they are REALLY good songs, and 2nd, they feature Kian and Nicky.
Back to the real album, "All Out Of Love" is a better duet than the previous duet from "Face to Face", but it lacks surprises...talking about surprise, the last track "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" is quite a shock (in a good way)...I heard a lot of complaints about this song, but I like it quite a lot (especially when Mark hits the high notes, and I enjoy Shane's low notes also)! Overall, this album is not to be missed! Like all fans, I am waiting for a Westlife album that contains original songs!
Free Music Review: solid Hit: 4 Stars
I've only become aware of Westlife recently. I think they are terrific and love their song selection.
If you like their type music, this will please you.
Free Music Review: So what...? Hit: 3 Stars
I really enjoy the lads' music, but this time around, that's what I saw. "So what", which is Simon Cowell's saying about many contestants on American Idol. I find that the caliber of these mates is really very good. However, most of the covers included herein are, well, copycats to a large extent.
Those that offer no big difference from the original version would be The Rose, All Out of Love (weaker even than the original), You Light Up My Life, All or Nothing and You've Lost That Loving Feeling. The Dance is OK, but a bit boring.
Those that sound as good would be Easy (even slightly better), You Are So Beautiful (To Me) (a little twist), Have You Ever Been in Love and Love Can Build a Bridge. My incentive for buying this CD was the massive Bonnie Tyler smash, Total Eclipse of the Heart (they do it some justice, but it lacks Bonnie's power).
A lot of negativity it seems to deserve three stars. Here is my rationale. The guys are quite good, but it would have been nicer to infuse the songs with a little personal style. They are good at what they do and they have good voices. They sing well together and alone, which you may want to expect from Simon Cowell (though Il Divo, another one of his discoveries is so-so...)
I hope the lads will come back with something original. If you want British talent that covers old pop and rock songs, I would most definitely recomment Bonnie Tyler's HEART AND SOUL, a great album of covers which was released a few years back. As far as Westlife is concerned, I am looking forward to something more substantial, and less fluff. Still a big fan though!
