Free Music Review: An aptly-titled album
Hit: 5 Stars

You've gotta hand it to George Michael. He knows what he's doing. He always has. This album was destined to be a hit. He was so confident that this album was titled "Make It Big." It's easy to see why. This album helped spark the 80s pop revoultion with its effortless pop hooks that made people dance uncontrollably. Songs like "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" are classic pop songs that helped define the youth of an entire generation in the 80s. There's no significance to the song, really -- George won't even sing it live anymore -- but it's just plain FUN. And that's what pop is all about. You'll find a continuation of the fun that started with the previous album, "Fantastic," but with a more mature edge. Songs like "Freedom!" and "Everything She Wants" are more complex and were unlike anything that was on the radio at the time. And "Careless Whisper" is another discussion entirely. Suffice it to say that that son! g alone is worth the cost of this CD. A haunting, catchy tune, "Careless Whisper" is probably one of the best songs of all time. I haven't even taken into account George's trademark slick production. What you end up with is another fun CD that doesn't try to be anything but good 80s fun, with a few surprises thrown in.

Free Music Review: Hats off folks, it's time to admit it -- George Michael is a genius
Hit: 5 Stars

George Michael was SEVENTEEN years old when he wrote "Careless Whisper", people.

"Careless Whisper" and "Everything She Wants" stand the test of time. George Michael's composition skills and vocal performances are utterly phenomenal.

Go to YouTube and watch all the unplugged and live versions of these amazing songs. I recommend the "Live in Rio" version of "Careless Whisper". It makes my hair stand on end.

For people who appreciate great music and the craft of timeless songwriting...whether it's jazz, Hank Williams, Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, Aretha, Patsy Cline, George Jones...the CLASSICS...there are 2 such songs on this record.

What's weird is that George was wearing silly short-shorts, day-glo gloves, a blow-dried hair "helmet", had screaming teen-age girls lusting after him when he had more lust for tax havens. He was just discovering why those little girls did not appeal to him...

Hmmm... WHO CARES?

He's written a few more such spine-chilling songs.

This was where it all began.

Hats off to George Michael.

Free Music Review: Classic Pop
Hit: 5 Stars

First off, George Michael's voice is one of the best in the buisness and it is perfectly showcased on this album. "Make It Big" was one of the biggest selling pop albums of the 80's going multi-platinum and it was well-deserving. With four huge hits, it was an instant smash. The album begins with the fun and upbeat pop of "Wake Me Up" and it's no wonder this track went to #1 on the pop charts as did "Everything She Want." "Freedom" was also a massive top 5 hit and is a definite highlight. Very catchy and fun. "Credit Card Baby" and "Heartbeat" could've both been hits if they were released. Both are very fun pop songs. But the standout track on here and of George Michael's career period and quite possibly 80's soft rock period is the beautiful ballad "Careless Whisper" which is a classic in its own right. From the sweeping sax to Michael's gorgeously smooth vocals, this song should make you want the album alone.

Anyone growing up in the 80's will remember these tunes, but for the younger under 20 crowd who missed out the first time, this is worth checking out.

Free Music Review: Make it Big
Hit: 5 Stars

George and Andrew's biggest moment so far - but so misunderstood by their fans. To find the real stars, look behind the big hits to songs like "If you were there" (slick production even for a cover), "credit card baby" and the fantastic "Heartbeat". These lesser known songs give the vibe and "feel good" factor of 1984 (god was it that long ago!). Still sounding fresh today, "everything she wants" and "wake me up..." are classics of their time. The reworked "careless whisper", whilst a fantastic improvement of George's solo effort of 1982, is often mistaken as the star track of this album. How wrong can everyone be I deny anyone not to feel sixteen again when listening to "FREEDOM". A classic, understated album of the 80's - THIS IS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN.

Free Music Review: The best album ever, must buy Pop CD
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the first CD I bought and still my all-time favourite album. It starts with a bang and ends with a big bang. "Wake me up before you go-go" is one hell of a fun song. And "Careless Whisper" is of course one of the most beautiful ballads ever written. "Freedom" and "Everything she wants" were also released as singles (I like the latter one's single edit even more) but even the other four songs are jewels (and would have deserved to be released on their own). "Heartbeat" is probably the best song not released as a single I have ever heard.

This album is a classic and made Wham! the biggest Pop Band of the 80s.

The only shortcoming of this album is its length.

This album is highly recommended. Buy it!
