Free Music Review: "An Excellent Soundtrack To A Great Film"

Tina Turner's life story came to movie theatres in 1993 and at the same time a remarkable soundtrack album was released simultaneously. Tina was required to rerecord many of her and Ike Turner's old songs to suit modern sound systems. She was not at all happy about that requirement as she had put her past and Ike behind her forever as singing these songs conjured up old memories that were not happy ones. Still, being the pro Tina is she redid the songs with her band and discovered how much fun she actually had singing these classics once more.
The soundtrack of "What's Love Got To Do With It?" is an excellent overview of Tina's career up until the early nineties. Covered are all the old R and B songs that were made famous by Tina and Ike including "A Fool In Love", "It's Gonna Work Out Fine", and "Proud Mary" that garnered Tina her first Grammy win in 1971. Tina's version of "Disco Inferno", a song she performed at cabarets around the world, but never recorded, is available here, and two hits that made her a household name in 1984, "I Might Have Been Queen" and her #1 blockbuster "What's Love Got To Do With It?", are added to the soundtrack. These two songs are the original recordings from the "Private Dancer" album.
The biggest hit from the soundtrack is the Grammy nominated "I Don't Wanna Fight" (Tina lost the Grammy that year to Whitney Houston" for "I Will Always Love You") that hit #9 on the Billboard Charts, making it one of Tina's most popular songs, and in Canada it fared even better going to #1 for five consecutive weeks. The other songs released as singles, "Why Must We Wait Until Tonight" was a mediocre hit, while "Disco Inferno" was a Top 10 dance smash.
"What's Love Got To Do With It?" went all the way to #17 on the Billboard Pop Album Charts and its success was immediate being certified Platinum .
