Free Music Review: Wake Me When It's Over
Hit: 1 Stars

Such a fine movie.

Such a lousy soundtrack.

It worked when you watched Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal walk through Central Park in Autumn but it's a different story in your living room. If you don't fall asleep while Harry the Hype Connick Jr. mumbles his way through a very lame Sinatra impression, you're drinking too much coffee.

I'm pretty sure there's a moment or two during "Love Is Here To Stay" where Connick and his band actually dozed off. Good editing to splice that "performance" back together.

For Sinatra-like performances it's always a better idea to get albums recorded by one Albert Francis Sinatra.

Free Music Review: When Harry Met the Soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm amused by the editorial review which says that this album is somehow "an enigma". Let's be clear: this album was NEVER marketed as the soundtrack to WHEN HARRY MET SALLY--at least not by Sony/Columbia. Retailers may have mistakenly included the word "soundtrack" somewhere in their listings, but it ain't nowhere on the CD label itself. Instead, this is, as the cover states, "Music from the film WHEN HARRY MET SALLY". There's even a big ol' picture of Harry Connick, Jr. on the cover--which should be your first clue that he's gonna be doin' most of the work here.

Clearly, this isn't meant to be a soundtrack, but an interpretation. In fact, it doesn't even include the Connick renditions of "It Had to Be You", "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off", "Love is Here to Stay", "But Not for Me", and "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" which actually appear in the film (the film versions are much more up tempo). Indeed, there are only a few tracks on the entire album which have been lifted from the film. "I Could Write a Book" is the most obvious, but the voiceless "Autumn in New York" is there in the background, too.

The point is, there's no reason to be miffed at Sony/Columbia, Harry Connick, Jr. or really anyone involved with the production of this album. They haven't lied about what they were doing. Rather, they've created an innovative product that has very few equals elsewhere. Far from being a rip off, this is an unique opportunity to see an artist reinterpret his own work--and some great old standards.

Free Music Review: It's not original!
Hit: 2 Stars

It's so disappointing to have to listen to Harry Connick mangling the original songs by these greatest vocalists....

Free Music Review: Exquisite to say the least!
Hit: 5 Stars

I loved it! It's that simple! At first, I was a little apprehensive of the fact that only one artist was present. The majority of soundtracks, as we all know, feature a variety of artists which makes them appealing because we experience different musical genre on a single cd. I was, however, pleasantly surprised and think that Harry Connick Jr. did an excellent job on this soundtrack! I appreciated it most on one cold rainy day when I curled up with a hot mug of mocha latte to read a book (Actually, I enjoyed the music so much I ended up just sitting there listening to it and staring out of the window).

Free Music Review: Marketing Bull - Not the Soundtrack!!
Hit: 1 Stars

I can't understand how they can compile a fantastic "soundtrack" with Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra,...etc and then market this "intepretation" by Harry Connick Jr. Don't get me wrong the guy is talented and I do enjoy some of his music, but I wanted the original SOUNDTRACK!! I was dissappointed.
