Free Music Notes for Faithless Street

Free Music Review: When the Tupes' stumbled and dropped the torch. . .
Hit: 5 Stars

. . . Whiskeytown grabbed it and kept running.

Do yourself a favor. Justify the fact that you own a CD player and buy this album. Play it in your car when you're sick of hearing whimpering Australian soap stars squeak about being all torn up and out of faith on MTV. Make copies of "Faithless Street" and give them to everyone you know for Christmas. Jump up and down during the rocking numbers and make out to the slow ones. Get the picture?

Free Music Review: Straight-up brilliant
Hit: 5 Stars

Faithless Street isn't a curio - it is as vital today as when first released in 1996. "If He Can't Have You" and "Mining Town" are crisp masterpieces, still glowing with the buzz the band no doubt put on while recording them. They are the Replacements reborn - execpt with commercial juice this time out. Whiskeytown will take over the world in short order, if they don't manage to kill themselves doing it.

Free Music Review: Genius...a classic.
Hit: 5 Stars

Ryan Adams is truly a genius - it's a challenge to listen to this album without a strong emotional response. If you are a fan of alt-country (I dislike the term, but that's what "The Man" calls it), this album is an absolute must. This album could very easily become one of the classics of the genre. Whiskeytown, now or then, is certainly the equal of other alt-country favorites like UT, SV, and Wilco.

Free Music Review: Real Deal
Hit: 5 Stars

By far one of the best "country" albums written, performed, and produced in the last decade. An excellent example of how the original tradition of country music (that of singing from the heart, about actual experiences many can personally relate to) is being carried out by a new generation of musicians. This is not your typical "Nashville Pop garbage", but the real deal from a new generation.

Free Music Review: One of the best Americana records ever made
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a brilliant record that rivals Uncle Tupelo's March 16-20 as the best Americana I've ever heard. Not as slickly produced as another fine effort Stangers Almanac, Faithless Street has more edge, diversity, and just pure musicianship. The last song, Factory Girl, is so good you'll be singing it to yourself for days.

This is one the top 10 records of the '90's.
