Free Music Notes for Endless Wire (W/Dvd)Free Music Review: Pete's Gem, Stands with his Best Work Hit: 5 Stars
I anxiously awaited this and was blown away upon listening .I'm a forever fan of the Who and Pete Townshend's solo work (Empty Glass is my #1 all-time favorite) and have been deeply moved by this effort. With Pete and Roger's various personal tribulations as well as the loss of Keith and John it's clear that Townshend's craftmanship has never been sharper. The depth and maturity are evident here. Listening to it through headphones only enhances the experience. Best cuts are "God Speaks of Marty Robbins", "Mike Post Theme", "You Stand By Me", "Fragments",the entire "Endless Wire" mini-opera. Hell, they're all good. Yes Roger sounds weathered. Don't we all? I think he sounds great. I find myself weeks away from 50 and it's comforting to have kept a few old friends along the way. Thanks, Roger. Thanks, Pete
Free Music Review: Who, Two - Long Live Rock Hit: 5 Stars
Yeah, it's been a long time and much in the world has changed since It's Hard.
What matters most is the new "Two" songs by Townshend and performances by "The Two" hold up quite nicely with current releases of new material by contemporaries Ray Davies, Neil Young, Peter Frampton and Bob Dylan. Endless Wire is certainly much better than any new material that Clapton or The Rolling Stones have released over the last 20 or so years. In fact Endless Wire is much better than the post Moon Face Dances and It's Hard.
Townshend contuniues to grow as a composer and even though age has taken some toll on Rog's voice he sounds great singing Pete's songs. Still, as much as I miss the OX and Moon, I am very pleased this CD of new music is here.
They're not the same, you're not the same.
Free Music Review: Who's Comeback Hit: 5 Stars
I went to see The Who live this year in Las Vegas. They've still got it.
The new album is sensational. In my opinion it was well worth the wait. The highlight of the album for me was the "Wire and Glass" mini opera. It is true that Roger's vocals aren't what they used to be. But they still work. Pete's writing and playing is very good. Pino is probably the only bass player in the world good enough to even try and come close to Entwistle. And of course Zak, who is always on fire, is back on drums. So with a stellar, albeit not original, backup group, Pete and Roger can still play great.
After getting teased with two new songs in 2004, and further tortured with a single earlier this year, you finally hear the whole thing. I am very happy with the new release.
Free Music Review: Lucky to have an outstanding new Who song collection! Hit: 5 Stars
If you were good enough to purchase this before you caught them live in your city on tour these past few months or you're waiting for your concert date, These songs are masterpieces in their own right. The best Townsend and Daltry have done in years. The indication from the live performance was that the audience agreed as they applauded as the first few notes of the new material was played offering up instant recognition for their new songs! Daltrey and Townsend were amazed by the response and it is well earned. Great on Cd better live! The collection completes the statement with "Tea at the Theatre", you can't help feeling the pain, sorrow and success as it tugs at them if you listen closely to the lyrics.
An excellent addition to your Who collection!
Free Music Review: Meet the New Boss... Hit: 5 Stars
Despite the fact that Endless Wire isn't quite in the league of Tommy, Who's Next, or Quadrophenia, repeated listening nudges this disc closer to five stars than four. The fact that The Who have made an album this good this late in their career is nothing short of astounding.
Virtually every song here is remarkable, whether it's a fired-up rocker ("Mike Post Theme", "Mirror Door") or a stripped-down ballad ("Man in a Purple Dress", "Tea and Theatre"). There's never been a Who album with this much variety, and it's not lacking in passion.
Quite simply, it's not hyperbole to say that this is the best Who album since By Numbers (1975); indeed, you have to go back to Quadrophenia (1973) to better it.
