Free Music Notes for Sky Blue SkyFree Music Review: Another Great LP from the Best Band Working Today! Hit: 5 Stars
As a longtime Wilco fan, I was worried that Nels Cline would ruin the band. I couldn't be more wrong.
While Wilco may never reach the brilliance of YHF, this is a very, very enjoyable album. The guitar work from Jeff and Nils is outstanding. Anyone who says "rock is dead" should give this on a spin. Soaring melodic guitar solos, spot on travis picking, soulful crunch, sweet acoustic work: it is all here.
Standout tracks include the near-perfect "Impossible Germany", the sweet and catchy "Either Way", the daring "You Are My Face" and the inspirational "What Light".
Wilco may never have a 'hit' on FM radio, but don't be fooled: this is the best of rock 'n roll today.
Free Music Review: 5 stars - only because that's all there are! Hit: 5 Stars
I have loved this CD ever since I heard it for the 1st time this summer on a trip out west driving through Utah. On our return my 19 year old son gave it to me for my birthday in August and I have played it in my car exclusively. Believe me, I have listened to a lot (!) of music in my life and music is definitely a vital part of it but haven't felt so mesmerized for years, literally. The sound, the lyrics, the way it rings in my ears, etc., you just have to listen to this - it'll sing to your soul. (VW must have felt it too since I noticed now that those are Wilco songs in their ads.) I guess now I'll have to branch out and do a study of Wilco, that is, if I can ever stop playing this one CD!
Free Music Review: Just like old times Hit: 5 Stars
As a big Wilco fan, I'll be the first to admit that their sound has changed drastically, and more than once. Most fans (myself included) would argue that it's been a fun ride, but it does make it difficult to know which Wilco you're going to get when you pick up a new albumn. I am delighted to report that this is the "Being There" Wilco. YHF and GIB were great albumns, and I don't want to detract from that. That being said, I could shave 10 minutes of buildup and extended feedback off of each of those albumns and I don't think anything would be lost. Sky Blue Sky feels to me like Wilco finally got over that experimental binge and revisited the simple, hauntung, sound they loved.
Free Music Review: Gretest Album of All-Time!! Hit: 5 Stars
This is with out a doubt the greatest album ever recorded. The lyrics are straight from the heart and the musical arrangements are incredible! I personally feel that this album highlights Jeff Tweedy's writing ability as well as the band's ability to be comfortable "in their own skin". There are songs that are relaxing ("Either Way", "Sky Blue Sky"), songs of dispair ("You are My Face", "Please be Patient With Me"), which are my two favorites, and songs of great hope ("Impossible Germany", "What Light", and "On and On and On"). This album, believe it or not, saved our marriage. Thank you Jeff Tweedy and Wilco for putting out an album with so much heart and a long lasting message.
Free Music Review: Wilco goes soul Hit: 5 Stars
I just have to say, upon first listen, this is the most amazing Wilco album... its beautiful, soulful, painful... I loved Ghost and Yankee, but the soulfulness of these songs is just the ringing through factor. Man, these songs make me cry... Got to get the deluxe edition and watch Jeff talk about how he has stripped back the songwriting, and some of the themes it is about. I don't know what people are talking about saying "this record has to grow on you". Maybe I just like slow mellow stuff... I dunno. I just feel ever note of this album. You be the judge. Thanks Jeff and co. for making great music. Music saves lives. Can't wait to see you this summer.
