Free Music Review: Make your own decisions!
Hit: 5 Stars

I often read reviews and find myself agreeing with the 5 stars and 1 star reviews quite easily. Everyone has an opinion of how the music made them feel at any one particular time. Some are even helpful and sensical.
That being said...
listen to this album. Really sit down, stand up, walk around, and listen to this. I have. The songwriting is refreshing. I find myself liking one song over another each time I listen. I am proud to be a Wilco fan and even happier that the group's style is continually changing. Not improving, but changing. I feel I am also someone who relates with Tweedy's words and thoughts. This obviously makes it easier to absorb and appreciate the album. You need not know the band, its diverse catalogue, or history to get into this.
The best albums, I find, are those that take more than one sitting to decide the number of stars you will assign. Listen. Decide. I hope you can discover the subtle power of the everyman band that is Wilco, and the soulful simplicity that is Sky Blue Sky.

Free Music Review: Unquestionably Great
Hit: 5 Stars

After having listened to Sky Blue Sky repeatedly, and seeing the band live, I feel I can appropriately review this album. It is with great ease I say that this album is Wilco's finest, and that, surely, is saying a lot. The production on this album was the first thing that jumped out at me. The songs sound alive, the guitars sound warm and the vocals clear. I've not heard anything sound this way since the Beatles on vinyl. And it's not just a great sounding record - Tweedy has umped the ante with his songwriting, taking his seemingly endless bag of melodies and wrapping them around classic and jazzy chord progressions. "Impossible Germany" as an example - three guitars harmonize and intertwine calmly, beautifully for 4:07 until they each break out into their own break down, with Nels Cline providing the solo and Jeff Tweedy the drive. Without a doubt the most perfect song they've written thus far. And so goes the album... songs as beautiful and alive as they come. Well worth your time and money.

Free Music Review: Nels Cline is Brilliant
Hit: 5 Stars

Stop what you are doing and buy this album right now. No really. Right up there ^^ Just order it.

I am a Wilco fan that was hooked by "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot", and have been enamored with everything since. "Summerteeth" - ngeh. I listen to it because it is smart and relaxing but I don't love it. I hated "A Gohst is Born" on first spin but became quite impressed with it on subsequent spins and eventually grew to love it. I streamed a couple of tracks pre-release from "Sky Blue Sky" and wasn't thrilled - It seemed bland and watered down. Now that I own it and have given it several spins, I find that I am loving it. The addition of Nels Cline is brilliant - he is a master and exhibits a strong technical interpretation of Tweedy's rhythmic drone. I had read that the album was "simple" and "roots-y" -and certain tracks are - but there are some complicated arrangements (a-la Steely Dan, maybe?). And some rock. Yay! All in all - a really listenable disc.

Free Music Review: Wilco's Mellow Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

At a certain point in Wilco's career, didn't the insanity have to stop?

Known for creating messed-up, art-rock masterpieces like Hotel Yankee Fox Trot and a Ghost Is Born, didn't Wilco have a to sit down and just right a good rock record? You know, one you could put on Saturday afternoon and chill with? In Sky Blue Sky we get the sound of a band relaxing and stretching out into a beautifully constructed set of mellow rock gold.

Now this being Wilco their amazing musicianship still shines through, the guitar playing on Impossible Germany being that rare example of a superbly crafted, dense, yet simple tune. But throughout all of Sky Blue Sky Wilco courageously rejects the ideals of alt-rock superiority, to just allow them to be the chilled 70's sounding rock band even their most arty of records shows can't really hide.

Free Music Review: Sobriety Breeds Perfection
Hit: 5 Stars

First let me say I think Jeff Tweedy is the very best male talent around today period (Jewel being the best female). This is his very best album, he uses Nels Cline to perfection, the writing is sharp and clear and the sounds delightful. This is the sound of a mind set free after years of addiction and just hard living. Like it or not WILCO is Jeff Tweedys project to do , say and use people in his vision. And here he uses everyone to perfection. This album is a bloomer if you dont love it at first try try again. Some of the very best songs took me a while to set in, SHAKE IT OFF for instance, I thought was the weak link first few listens. Now I think it one of his very best songs. This is WILCO's very most Joy filled album. I highly recommend it to all, especially to you 40 and over people desperate for something as good as the classic rock we knew.
