Free Music Notes for Summerteeth

Free Music Review: Magnum Opus
Hit: 5 Stars

This album were my personal top 1 of the last year. Here in Brazil people don't even know what Wilco means and this is a sad fact. This album has perfect songs and (most of all) perfect lyrics which mix up surrealism and romantism. Songs like She's A Jar and the two versions of Shot In The Arm prove it. The eponimous track is an happy meeting with Beatles, Beach Boys and It's A Beautiful Morning (made by the italo-american soul pop group The Young Rascals circa 1968). But one of the my top five moments of last year (oh, my. A Rob Flemming syndrome of top fives! ) were my first contact with How To Fight Loneliness. I thought: how may it possible? A guy named Jeff Tweedy, an american, knows ALL about MY way to fight against loneliness here in RIO? This guy was born in Texas! Results: I purchased Being There, A.M and the other magnum opus of the late 90's, Mermaid Avenue. Buy this and be a better person.

Free Music Review: really near-perfect
Hit: 5 Stars

A departure from Wilco's alt-country roots, Summerteeth built on the introspective writing and ambitious music from the previous album Being There to create a set that brought together the best influences of American music, with shades of R&B, vocal harmony, solid rock nroll and just a bit of the dissonance that would make their next two albums a bit more of a challene.
You can definitly hear the influence of side-man Jay Bennet on these works - particularly his composition "My Darling," which is just as tender a love song as has ever been written, albeit to a child not a lover. This is also the album where Jeff Tweedy gets the most personal, with what I would say are many of his finest songs.
This album, like all of Wilco's recodes besides A.M., takes a few listens to appreciate - I remember bing bored to tears when I saw them debut this material live despite the many hooks. But it's worth it.

Free Music Review: It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This
Hit: 5 Stars

I discovered Wilco purely by accident. But now I know there is, in fact, a God. At first, I thought that musical perfection was impossible - but I was wrong. Dead wrong. "Summer Teeth", the extraordinary slice of heaven in compact disk form, is an amazing collection of songs. Defying any conventional methods of catagorization, Wilco has created their own genre of music and set the standard for bands everywhere -- too bad so few people have heard of them.
"Summer Teeth" has a song for every conceivable emotion. Frustrated? Mellow out with "When You Wake Up Feeling Old." Sleepy? Get dancing with "Can't Stand It." Or cry as you sing drunkenly to "We're Just Friends." I know I sure did.
Bottom line: you won't be complete until you own this album. Fill up that dead, hollow space in your tummy, and make a well-deserving band a few well-earned dollars.

Free Music Review: Wilco Continues To Evolve
Hit: 5 Stars

The influences of the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and most recently, Chicago-based band, Milhous, have always been evident in Wilco's work-- Summerteeth happens to pronounce them louder and more boldly. I can't help but feel that those die-hard alt-country fans who charge Wilco of selling out or losing their country guts are only insulted and hurt in the same way and ex-lover feels when the other has notably changed. They are jealous and frightened that their ex-partner has moved on and left them behind. But like the spurned lover, they fail to realize that their ex-partner always had it in them to be better and independent from whatever link kept them together. I doubt Wilco will fail to visit its musical past in future recordings, but I'm glad to see them take risks, and in my opinion, this time anyway, fervently succeed.

Free Music Review: Wilco Wows With Wonderful Offering
Hit: 5 Stars

Having purchased this fine disk a mere 4 days ago, I am currently on my 12th listen, and each time the album becomes more appealing. As a relative new-comer to Wilco's music (my first taste of them was their collaboration with Billy Bragg on "Mermaid Avenue"), I cannot comment much on their past. I can, however, offer an informed opinion of "Summerteeth." The album has all the elements of a classic rock album: great guitars, expressive vocals, beautiful melodies, and (most importantly) soul. From the frustration of "Can't Stand It" to the Brit-pop sing-along confection "Nothingsevergonnastandinmyway(again)," Wilco run the gammut of emotions, and exhibit said emotions with a radiance and sense of melody that is sadly rare in today's market. A perfect soundtrack for summer.
