Free Music Notes for Wilco (The Album)

Free Music Review: Mature Performance
Hit: 5 Stars

Wilco has now become a staple of alternative music, just like Death Cab For Cutie, they have carved out a sizable musical niche. They write their songs and play with extreme confidence. They are one of those bands that know who they are, and their fans can either get on board or disembark. Those that "get" them admire them. Those that don't feel that somehow Wilco abandoned its initial mission. As I've always said in the past, each band's cd should be graded on its own merits, and not compared to its previous efforts. I don't love every song, but each one makes a statement that is strong and definite. The rhythm section is tight, the vocals are clean, the guitar rings with purpose, especially on Bull Black Nova. What more could you ask from a talented bunch of guys from Illinois?

Free Music Review: Wilco album is a winner!
Hit: 5 Stars

I just discovered Wilco about a month ago, and decided to try out their new album. I was very glad that I did, as I found it to be very poetic with some lovely, catchy melodies. Some favorites are "Country Disappeared", "I'll Fight", "Everlasting Everything", and "You and I". However, there is not a bad song on there! I have listened to the album several times, and it just gets better and better with each listen. I highly recommend it to brand new fans of the band, and to those who have been with them from the start. I plan to go back and listen to their older stuff too, and look forward to hearing what they sounded like in the beginning. A big thumbs up to Wilco. Long may they run!

Free Music Review: The Best Yet?
Hit: 5 Stars

It's hard to compete with the early twin peaks of Being There and Summerteeth or for that matter the 2002 masterpiece Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but their newest album just might. It's certainly their best since YHF easily overshadowing A Ghost is Born and Sky Blue Sky. The album itself is a perfect distillation of everything Wilco has done up to this point, with brillant experimental, beautiful alternative pieces, and poignant country. Tweedy's songwriting hasnt sounded this good in sometime and he and his every evolving cohorts seem perfectly comfortable in their own skin, an easy bid for the best of 2009.

Free Music Review: Fabulous
Hit: 5 Stars

Each Wilco album is unique and challenging. My favorite is still ghost, but this one appeals to me in a different way. Still somewhat in country type of style, but with some flavoring of alternative undertones. I really enjoyed the music, but it left me wanting...as though they teased me, lured me... and then didn't totally appease my craving. This was almost like watching the last episode in a series... then wham... clip hanger... you're awed by the experience, want to choke the writer for not bringing the line to a conclusion....but... but... you come back for more.

Free Music Review: Another classic by the greatest band out there
Hit: 5 Stars

I love Wilco...they are such a consistently great band. I've had this album for about a month now, and I wasn't crazy about it at first; I liked it but wasn't overwhelmed by it. The more I've listened, the more the songs have seeped in and stuck with me. I now rank this as my favorite or a very close second to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Wilco just seems incapable of producing anything less than spectacular. Buy this album...it will grow on you and you won't want to be without it.
