Free Music Notes for Wilco (The Album)Free Music Review: Wilco (The Album That Doesn't Rock) Hit: 4 Stars
I was looking forward to the release of this album but feel a little let down after listening. It just doesn't rock. It's missing one critical thing in my opinion. There isn't one decent guitar solo on the whole album! After listening multiple times, I'm still waiting for every track to break out in one of those tortured guitar solos that are so typical on Wilco albums. But the solos never come! I don't know much about producing music, but I CAN HEAR the guitar solos in MY MIND and would have insisted that the band add a few here and there throughout the cd. But that's probably why I'm stuck in this dead end job and not producing rock bands.
Free Music Review: Excellent, but too short album from America's best band Hit: 4 Stars
I'm on my fourth listen to Wilco (the album) and I already think it hangs together better than Sky Blue Sky, which I liked very much. The mood is lighter, the melodies stronger and the band rocks a little more here as well. My personal favorites so far are One Wing, You and I (lovely duet with Feist), You Never Know (dig that ethereal "I don't caaaaarrrre anymore" hook in the chorus!)and Sonny Feeling (another great hook).
In short, this album hasn't taken much time to grow on me and I'm sure I'll still find buried treasures in repeated listens. Can't wait to see them in Lowell next week!
Free Music Review: A comortable album, taking few chances Hit: 4 Stars
Wilco (The Album) is fairly accessible for non-hardcore devotees, but eclectic nonetheless. Wilco is never about straight-ahead songs - this CD offers pleasing, melodic tunes elbow-to-elbow with more experimental alternative tracks that harken to earlier, edgier releases. A "B+" effort from one of today's most prolific songwriting and performing bands. Related bands: Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt. GENRES: Alt Country, Rock, Mellow Rock.
BUY IF YOU LIKE: Ryan Adams, Neil Young, Son Volt.
MUST HEAR TRACKS: "Country Disappeared," "You and I," "I'll Fight."
Free Music Review: Wilco Hit: 4 Stars
Wilco being Wilco's 2009 release and 7th studio album is an alternative rock release and sounds like REM. The album was a hit in Sweden and Finland. It also did well among the critics. Allmusic, Rolling Stone and Robert Christgau all gave the album good grades in their reviews. All the lyrics are included in the booklet along with photographs of the band. 4/5.
Free Music Review: Another Home Run for Wilco Hit: 4 Stars
Just when I thought it couldn't get any better than Sky Blue Sky, the lads from the windy city produce yet again! Complex cord changes throughout and progressive lyrics make this record a must for any alternative rock fan. From the dark and twisted "I'll Fight" to the perky "Sonny Feeling", I found this record very relaxing, yet rockin at the same time!
