Free Music Review: I Was There!

So many of the reviewers seem to be apologizing for Lucy. They might be basing all their remarks just on the cast album, and that's understandable, but, I was there at the Alvin theater sitting in the balcony. She was great and had that old fashioned Broadway pazzaz that seems to be missing from so many current, tired musicals on the "Great White Way." I will never forget the show. Lucy "sold" every single song; the entire show was bursting with energy; the men's chorus was excellent in particular. The house was completely sold out. The reviews were good. The show was not a flop - I couldn't get tickets to see it again for months (but by then Lucy couldn't keep up the 8-times-a-week schedule and the show closed). So, where does that leave this CD? A great momento of a very good show that should have lasted longer (if only Lucy had). I believe the CD demonstrates that she could have gone on to other shows if only she had the stamina (forget the movie of "Mame"). Buy it if you love the old Broadway shows with great singers, a star, and a full orchestra!
