The soundtrack (Vol. 1), however, completed its makeover into the alternative universe, as it was a consistently solid, beautifully crafted compilation of songs that gave new meaning to this tale of star-crossed, ill-fated lovers. Garbage's brooding tale of obsessive devotion ("#1 Crush") and The Cardigans' irresistible ditty, "LoveFool", are the album's signature hits. Des'ree's utterly gorgeous "Kissing You" and RadioHead's screechy, amped-up "Talk Show Host" are great highlights, as is "Young Hearts Run Free" from Kym Mazelle and Gavin Friday's "Angel". Everclear, The WannaDies, & Stina Nordenstam round out the soundtrack, but the true standout track for me has to be Mundy's terrific, acoustic-guitar rocker "To You I Bestow" (which is actually featured in the movie's trailer). Simply put, this soundtrack was one of the 90's finest records, ranks as one the best soundtracks EVER, and is a must-own for any true CD collector. As I told my buddy's girl (who loves this film), it's one I still play with to this day, 12 years after its release. -DEM- |
