Free Music Notes for Red Headed StrangerFree Music Review: a landmark album for Nelson and for country music Hit: 5 Stars
I highly enjoyed this mellow story of the red headed stranger, it holds up extremely well and is arranged beautifully. country licks abound, without being annoying like current country music. This has become one of my favorite albums, and you will enjoy it too for its rough edged charm and beauty. If you want to get into the music of Willie Nelson, get this album and Stardust, they are the best he ever made. Also check out Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and Merle Haggard for more terrific country music chops.
Free Music Review: An essential album to own Hit: 5 Stars
This is, quite simply, one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. My taste in music ranges quit dramatically, from old music, to new! Through it all though, this album has always been in my collection. As one previous review stated, this is not an album for background music. To sit and listen is to sit and be entranced. From the lyrics, to the vocals to that guitar played only the way Willie can... Remember...there is more to this CD than just "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain"!!
Free Music Review: Lost Highways Hit: 5 Stars
I'm reviewing this after watching a terrific BBC documentary called Lost Highways. In a single episode, amongst other things, it showed Willie from his earliest performances (good grief, it's hard to believe he ever looked that young) through to today, and had footage of Gram Parsons and the rest of the Flying Burrito Brothers clowning around in their Nudie suits as well ... superb. And yes, it reminded me how great Red Headed Stranger is. Sparse, timeless and moving. You really should own it.
Free Music Review: Oh my goodness... Hit: 5 Stars
It's a sad state of affairs when a triumph like this is reviewed thirty-five times and the Da Vinci Code is reviewed fifteen hundred. This record is a must for any music lover. Everyone should appreciate his trueness and brevity to the craft. The way his mastery of the music melds with the English language is profound. Wille is so much more than "On The Road Again" and "To All The Girls I've Loved Before." How can you not love this album? I certainly do.
Free Music Review: if stranded on a desert Island, I'm taking this with me Hit: 5 Stars
It really doesn't matter if you are a country music fan or not. This album is carries a rare power and passion that crosses across musical boundaries. In fact, if I were to name just 1 country music album to own, this would be it. I also have Willie and Family Live and Willie's Greatest Hits, but this is the most impressive thing I've heard from him. I can't recommend this any higher.
