I challenge anyone who says "I like all music, except country" to not come away smiling after their first listen, and singing along after the 2nd or 3rd. "Red Headed Stranger" is as good an album as "Let It Bleed", "Revolver" or "Daydream Nation" (Stones, Beatles, Sonic Youth, respectively). Everyone needs to own it.

I first bought this album on vinyl thirty years ago or more and wore it out. I recently purchased it again on CD, and it was money well spent. As some of the other reviewers have said, this is not really country music. It's just good music, period. Red Headed Stranger is one of the few albums I've ever bought twice. Stark, depressing, moving, quiet, sad, redemptive, and superb. All of these adjectives describe what many believe to be the primary Willie Nelson masterpiece, 1975's Red Headed Stranger. This classic was smartly reissued in 2000 with some great bonus tracks and much-improved sound. I was so happy to find out that Amazon had copies of The Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson. I loved that "tape!" I had it on tape, but it was lost about nine years ago. Now I have it on CD and it sounds even
better than it was. I got an extra one for my car. The price was right. Yea! Thank you Amazon.

I'm not much into country but my husband wanted it. I listened to it with him and I found the words very mellow, catchy, and fine in my book. Some of the songs are short... even as short as a few seconds! You don't notice because some of the songs are continuations of the previous songs. It's a kool cd.
