Free Music Notes for WintersunFree Music Review: wow!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
WOW!!! AMAZING!! if u like CHILDREN OF BODOM and KALMAH... prepare to get blown away!! literally
not only is this album GREAT! it is also beautiful. one of the BEST releases of 04'.
jari maenpaa demonstrates virtuoso guitar that is soo classically influenced, that it totally shows alexi laiho up.
i mean this is one of the greatest albums i have EVER bought. think COB with MORE melodicism and MORE talent.
it shows that jari wanted to show his own stuff after exiting ENSIFERUM... and well let me tell u about the drummer, kai hahto does such an excellent job, that at first i thought the drums were digitally mixed. u can tell by the song intro BATTLE AGAINST TIME.
the guitars are outta this world and mixes a certain ICED EARTH feel to the distortion with a better michael romeo solo to them.
i praise jari maenpaa for playing everything except drums on the album which shows his talent on the record...if u want a total beautiful FINNISH black metal album with the likes of ENSIFERUM and KALMAH, get this now!!!!!!
Free Music Review: a Finnish Masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
last Night i went and got this CD strictly on impulse.
I could tell by the artist it was Finnish & my favorite
genre is Finnish metal, so I picked it up and noticed
it was a Nuclear Blast release.. hell yeah.
i didnt really know what to expect, but i was
already amazed after listening to the first song.
It's like you're listening to Rhapsody and Children
of Bodom at the same time, which is sooo cool.
all the musical elements used in this production are
great.
there was not one track on here that I hated, they
are all really good and extremely catchy. my
favorite song is Sleeping Stars, the tempo changes
in the quickness and the ochestral work is simply
flawless. Wintersun is not well-known, but should
be without a doubt. this is a definite must-have for
any Finnish metal lover.
You should also check out:
Rhapsody- Tales From the Emerald Sword Saga
Children of Bodom- Hatebreeder
Black Majesty- Sands of Time
Free Music Review: Melodic Death Metal at it's Best Hit: 5 Stars
The moment I put this album on for the first time, I knew that I had chosen wisely. It wasn't too much of a gamble buying it, though, as I was already familiar with Jari Mäenpää's work with Ensiferum.
There is a very clear theme going on here surrounding ice and snow and all the metaphors you could possibly elicit from those things (pretty much every song). The fact that the band and album carry the same name, and that the winter concept is fully exhausted, it makes me think that this album is just a one off deal. I truly hope that is not the case.
Musically, this is very heavy and fast melodic death metal for the most part. There are some nice keyboard/synth orchestrations that lend an epic feeling to the music (especially on the longer tracks). The clean vocal parts also add some diversity. If you are a fan of the style then this album will not disappoint. It's definitely becoming one of my favorites.
Free Music Review: Beautiful Death!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
The title sums it up.....once your done listening to this album...theres no need to live.. you can die happy.
If God Listened to metal..it would be this.
Truly a milestone for metal world wide
Extremely Melodic and heavy...Gorgeous music that gives the illusion for gorgeous settings
Standout tracks are thus
Sleeping Stars-Starts off slow with a very mellow baseline. then It kicks into prolly one of the most addicting riffs ive ever heard...the best part is is thatits re occuring ha
Starchild-Very very very compllex song...Everything about it...its very uplifting and emotional.
BEAUTIFUL DEATH-Probably one of my favorite songs of all time. A very powerful and aggresive song. Very atmospheric. The lyrics are some of the best ive heard. Jaro definately took his time with writing it. Masterfully done, and the drum work is incredible
Free Music Review: Damn cool. Hit: 5 Stars
I heard these guys a little bit on youtube. They sounded pretty cool by what I could tell.
This cd is very good, as it has most that I look for being fast, melodic, and epic. The singer sings normal, death (growling), and even a little narration, which adds diversity. The music itself is relatively fast, and barely lets up, which could get kind of annoying and make you want to switch cd's some times. But, if fast is your thing, you won't be disappointed with Wintersun. They seem to have elements of bands like Death, Rhapsody, and Bal-Sagoth, but with a hint of folk.
This is one of my more favorite albums at the moment. Just about every song has something in it that you look forward to. Making the album good in it's entirety. If you liked "Death" these guys are just bigger and also have some regular singing with backup that really makes you feel like you're in some lost wintery temple.
