Free Music Notes for The Heart of EverythingFree Music Review: Won't repent to a mortal whom is all to blame Hit: 5 Stars
It should be noted that I'm new to Within Temptation--this being my first CD by them--so with that in mind, I love this CD. For whatever reason I always got Within Temptation and After Forever mixed up (my apologies if you take offense to that), seeing as how I'm not a huge fan of dual male/female vocals like what After Forever sport, you'd see the reason I kind of passed over WT for so long. What brought me to finally buy a WT CD? Stand My Ground.
For me, The Heart Of Everything is one of those CDs where you kick yourself for not listening to it sooner. There's a little bit of everything on here...powerful riffs, sing-a-long choruses, great verses, excellent lyrics, and possibly my favorite ingredient, a few of the songs truly have that 'epic' feel to them. Since buying THOE I haven't stopped listening to it and it only gets better with each further spin. I only find myself saying "Oop! Now there's a good song!" It's been a long while since a CD has evoked this kind of emotion in me.
Being new to WT, I didn't really know what I was getting myself into so I just put the CD in and let it play. The Howling came on and, well, it's beyond the most perfect opener. It has that 'epic' feel I mentioned and Sharon's delivery only elevates the song more. Past that, if you're looking for some heavy tracks, What Have You Done (I prefer the extended version myself), Our Solemn Hour, The Heart Of Everything, Final Destination, and The Truth Beneath The Rose are all right up your alley. Feel like a ballad? All I Need and Forgiven are among the most tasteful I've heard recently. As for the rest, Frozen, Hand of Sorrow, The Cross, and Stand My Ground are all extremely impressive as well.
My favorite songs are The Howling, Frozen, Final Destination, All I Need, and Stand My Ground. If you're the least bit interested in female-fronted bands then definitely check this out. WT put most bands like them to shame and that's coming from someone who is in LOVE with female-fronted bands. Past that, I got nothing more to add. Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: America's First Taste Of Within Temptation! Hit: 5 Stars
Finally, after years of wishing and waiting, Within Temptation's debut American release has been released! THE HEART OF EVERYTHING (once again) does not disappoint and is a very worthy follow-up to their previous masterpiece, THE SILENT FORCE. The album starts off with the sweet harmonizing of Sharon Den Adel's beautiful vocals before the band and epic sounding orchestra kick in on the album opener, "The Howling." Then the second song is the first single from the album called "What Have You Done" featuring male vocals courtesy of Keith Caputo from Life Of Agony. Next up is the beautiful and powerful epic ballad, "Frozen" (which will be the 2nd single). It is also my personal favorite from this album. "Our Solemn Hour" is not one of my personal favorites, however the guitar solo is a most welcome addition to the song. The title track "The Heart Of Everything" is my least favorite song off the album. "Hand Of Sorrow," "The Cross" and the heavier "Final Destination" are all great, classic and epic sounding Within Temptation songs. "All I Need" is another softer ballad which again allows Sharon's vocals to shine over a simple but great string soundscape. "Stand My Ground" is a bonus track which was added to the American release of this album, however it was originally featured on their previous album. "The Truth Beneath The Rose" is a rather long, and somewhat repetitive song, although it is still great and Sharon's haunting harmonizing vocals are incredible! Then the album closes with a soft piano ballad called "Forgiven." The last bonus track is just the original version of "What Have You Done." Overall this album is a fantastic work of art and I feel that it strongly outdid both the latest releases from Lacuna Coil and Evanescence. It is now time for Within Temptation to be in the spotlight and show America what they have been showing European countries for many years now. If this album is promoted correctly then I truly believe that Within Temptation will take America by storm. Definitely pick this one up!
Free Music Review: Outstanding: creative, emotional, powerful Hit: 5 Stars
I'm a very picky, 46-year-old American connoisseur of finely crafted
heavy metal, especially bands with female leads. I've been a big fan of
Nightwish for many years, but I also listen to Epica, Evanescence,
Edenbridge, After Forever, Without Face, Dark Moor, and so on. I own an
impressive collection of prog. metal, from Stratovarious, Dream Theater,
Avantasia, Freedom Call, Angel Dust, you name it. What do I like to
experience in my music? Depths of emotion.
Recently a friend of mine introduced me to Within Temptation by
lending me this CD. It absolutely blew me away, and believe me, it
takes a lot to impress me. This CD is fantastic.
In my opinion the lead singer, Sharon den Adel, is far better than
any other female singer I listen to, including Amy Lee of Evanessence
or any other singer from any genre (I don't care if it's Celine Dion,
Annie Haslam of Rennaissance or Barbara Streisand.) From the first
note to the last, you are under Sharon's spell. She portrays
incredible depths of emotion. She pulls you from the heights of fear
(The Howling), to the horrific aftermath of war (The Truth Behind the
Rose). She pulls you back up to the heights of piety (Our Solemn
Hour), and back down to the depths of despair (Forgiven).
She explores both self-doubt (Frozen) and personal conflict (What Have
You Done) but also strength and determination (Stand My Ground). Her
beautiful voice will take you there. If you like your metal laden with
lots of creativity and emotion, buy this CD.
Even without Sharon, this album stands alone. It has an excellent
mix of orchestration, sound effects, tinkling pianos, violins, and of
course, pounding heavy metal. The music is mature, complex,
well-thought-out and very well executed. The best purchase I've made
in many years of collecting "art-metal".
Free Music Review: Most Excellent Hit: 5 Stars
This album finds a more refined, focused and commercially viable piece of work from Within Temptation. Gone are the growling male vocals and long musical journeys. This statement without hearing the album could be a kiss of death BUT not so here. The band put Sharon Den Adel in front with a microphone and she delivered the goods. This is an excellent album, the songs have good melodies and hooks that make them very likeable. This is my second album by the band, the first one I bought the music was good but the production or engineering was bad which was a real shame. When you hear The Heart of Everything you will understand why there is boung to be comparisons to Evanescence. I don't own any of their albums. I heard the first one but didn't like it enough to buy it. Within Temptation have more tools in the box and do a better job with the genre. When I discovered bands like Nightwish, Tristania, Epica etc I could not believe this great music was out there and American radio was so narrow minded as to not introduce this music to the air waves. Hopefully Within Temptation can break through with this album and once established bring back some of the original rawness. Heart of Everything even has a couple ballads which are very good. As some one mentioned the songs do seem to have formula but it doesn't stop the talent from shining through. As some of the songs built up in emotion I was expecting a little jamming or more Progressive filler but some one kept the songs in a neat little package. I don't mean for this to sound critical, it's just that this album is very different from my other, Sins of My Beloved. As a finished product this is a good thing. I am enjoying this album a lot and expect it to be in my listening stack for some time to come. I hope the album does good things for the band. I encourage you to give The Heart of Everything a listen.
Free Music Review: AMAZING Album! Hit: 5 Stars
I am going to start off by saying that this is easily one of my favorite albums that ever came out, and I am a proud owner! I truly wish that bands like Within Temptation, Epica, Nightwish etc. were more popular in the US so it wouldn't be a pain ordering their CDs, and I wouldn't have to shut the radio off. It is easy to say that the Europeans are by far the best when it comes to the symphonic metal genre. I think every single track on here is strong and just as good as the other. The vocals are amazing, soft where they need to be and strong/ heavy where they need to be powerful. I am not sure how people can relate "What Have You Done?" to Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life". These bands are just not even close talent wise. Evanescence is America's struggle to beat Europe's symphonic metal which obviously cannot be topped. Within Temptation has been around for years, and will be around whereas Evanescence is now on hiatus with Amy Lee looking for a solo career. I am not saying they're bad, just not up to par with bands like these. Also notice how years after Within Temptation's Mother Earth release, most of their CDs cost still over $10, as opposed to many other bands with their releases costing about 90 cents. That's how you know a CD is appreciated and just THAT good. I love how every CD Within Temptation goes for a different theme/ topic with different vocals from Sharon. Mother Earth sounded rather heavy on the vocal range as opposed to Silent Force that sounded rather angelic, and to top it, The Heart of Everything combined both elements which is what makes it a top notch release. You can hear the emotion in all of their songs and no track is weak! This is one album worth listening to for years to come.
