Free Music Notes for Songs From Stamford HillFree Music Review: A great album, so much promise, yet where did it all go? Hit: 5 Stars
I find it really sad that this album is going for $0.01 at the moment on marketplace.
It's a great album. I saw Wood live supporting Paul Weller and bought the album on the strength of the performance. It's one of those gems in my CD collection that I'm glad I've got.
I find it really tragic that a band with such a distinct sound just seemed to stop dead in their tracks and never produced that second album.
Those of you who doubt this, gamble a cent (and shipping) - you'll probably find it's well worth it.
Keep the music alive!
Free Music Review: One of the Best Records I've heard in YEARS!!!Awesome... Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD after I heard the song "Stay You" on the radio...but..."Man On Fire", Knock It On The Head" and other tracks also blew me away. This record will be a classic. The guy's voice is wonderful, the songs are original & outstanding and the record is inventivly and beautifully produced (WOOD...produced by Stiff Johnson...hmmm...) WOOD has the rare ability to be listened to over and over again and sounds fresh every single time. I love this record!
Free Music Review: Echoes of many other performers and groups in this music. Hit: 5 Stars
This group was a real surprise for me. I heard them first on World Cafe on NPR. I am a big Crowded House/Finn Bros. fan so was really taken by their harmonies and approach to song writing. I hear so much of the Finn Bros in them. I am also a long-time Band fan and can hear shades of them in this music. There is also Beatles/Rod Stewart/a little Bruce Springsteen/Beach Boys....as influences.I like this music a lot. Not earth-shattering, not ground-breaking but good, thoughtful music.
Free Music Review: TRULY A CLASSIC Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD after hearing them perform live on a radio station in NYC. The album is out more than a half year and it is not selling well. What a shame. It is a wonderful, tuneful, intelligent rock and roll record on the POP side. Song after song are well crafted and catchy. Listen to the sound bites a few times and get hooked. It is a classic and I hpoe it gets discovered before its to late. I have no connection to this band just a big music fan.
Free Music Review: Best Album of 1999! Hit: 5 Stars
If you like to discover major talent before all of your friends buy 'Wood' today. If you like gorgeous melodies that stick in your head sung by a great rock singer this album is for you. If you like early Springsteen, The Band, Neil Young, Dylan, Van Morrison, and who doesn't, then you'll love this. Classic though contemporary, well written, well sung. An album that stands up to heavily repeated listenings.
