Free Music Review: Remarkable little gem of an album.

I know nothing about this band. I stumbled onto them, got this wonderful new album of theirs - and haven't stopped listening to it since. Woods' latest record works wonderfully as a single piece - it's got a definite feel and personality to it. It's a really wise, old-soul-genuine rock and roll album - and Songs of Shame reminds me of what LPs ought to be like. Great life to this, tight, and the musicianship is very clever and energetic. Research has revealed a thoughtful, likable band. Good minds at work, here. Lots of heart and character. I'm looking quite forward to checking out Woods' other titles: Five Stars. This is the real deal. This band is going to go a long way - I love it. Don't miss this album!! Woods do the trick, and Songs of Shame definitely gets you where you want to go - and does it smoothly, with a great little landing. Terrific LP!! A+

2009 release, the fourth full-length by Woods, Songs of Shame, veers away from the lo-fi guerillas-in-the-mist sound of their previous Shrimper long-player, At Rear House, and presents both 90-second and ten-minute forays into skeletal psychedelia. The idiosyncratic songwriting style and vocalizing of Jeremy Earl is still present in spades on the album.
