Free Music Notes for Wicks Have MetFree Music Review: Hitting Their Stride Hit: 4 StarsI loved Wrinkle Neck Mules debut CD Minor Enough, even though the production didn't do the band any favors, failing to capture the essence of the band in concert. The material was generally top notch.
Release number 2, Pull The Brake, was a small leap forward in terms of capturing the excitement of WNM, but the songs themselves didn't always answer the challenge.
The good news is that on The Wicks Have Met the band seems to have hit its stride and is developing an indentity of its own. The production is first rate and the songs are given plenty of room to unfold. Primary vocalist Andy Stepanian really sounds confident here and the playing is, as always, excellent. I recommend it.
Free Music Review: They have indeed met...... Hit: 5 StarsOn the Wrinkle Neck Mules latest, they bring back more of the elements that drew my attention on 'Minor Enough': country, bluegrass, folk, and soak it all down with some whiskey fueled rock `n roll. The instrumentation is taken back a notch on this one towards bluegrass with more banjos, mandolins, and pedal steels. But there are still the rockers, like 'The Wicks Have Met' and 'Ursa Major'.
All in all; they bring the gritty, sloppy, back porch sound that first got me hooked on this band. If you liked 'Minor Enough' and 'Pull the Brake', this one is a must-have for your collection.
Turn it on......turn it up.......and rip off the volume knob!
