Free Music Review: I PUT MY "DISC" ON YOUR LIPS
Hit: 5 Stars

Alright, I went out last night and bought this in freezing cold NY at midnight. It was worth it. My friend and I were on the subway laughing, knowing we were about to hear new Wu for the first time in three years. Now, for those of you expecting something like 36 Chambers you will be surprised. Unlike most hip hop acts, the Wu are driven by their producer. RZA has developed his style and has begun to transcend the traditional "limits" of the hip hop song. It was obvious by his work on Supreme Clientele, that he was not on the same "Wu-style" that had become so easy to recognize. However, I had no idea how far he was willing to go in his growth as a musician. The MCing on this album is also amazing. Rae, RZA, Meth, Nas, Red, and a little sprinkling of ODB's special blend of herbs and spices make for solid, solid mic work. The real standout (and , in my opinion, the sharpest in the whole Clan) is Ghost. GHOST HAS CHANGED THE RULES. Like RZA (on the production side), Ghostface has developed even further - he is miles ahead of ALL other MCs. His delivery is unorthodox by rap standards and far more expressive than the thuggy, monotone style employed by garden variety Mic Checkers. The version of The Jump Off is different than the single - it's better. Let My Niggas Live finds Nas Illmatic again (finally) and is probably his best song in years. Careful (Click, Click)is brutal - like mood music from some super grimy movie. I would do this track by track, but it would turn into me saying "bang" over and over. After only holding this for 16 hours, my favorites are Jah World, I Can't Go To Sleep and Hollow Bones. Conditioner may be the most interesting of all tracks, the listener finds a CLEAN AND SOBER DIRTY (it sounds like he actually wrote this down before recording) at the top of his game. In fact, one of my only gripes about The W is that Dirty is only on this one song(obviously this isn't by choice). The W is nothing like any other Wu product. It sounds like RZA did a solo album with guests all over it - there is no feeling of a group effort. This is a special album nonetheless - even the perpetually weak U-God sounds good! I know a lot of kids won't like this because it's so different, but MUSIC fans of every stripe will. If I wasn't still stuck on the new Sade and PJ Harvey albums, The W would be taking up residence in my CD player for an extended period with NO COMPETITION.

Free Music Review: Album of the year
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been anticipating this album for the last couple of months and the last thing I wanted was to be disappointed by it. I should have never worried, the Wu has never let me down before. I feel that this album has to be in their top 3 best ever. It compels you to listen to it and to respect all 10 members. Of course the stars shine the most, Ghostface Killah and Method Man are in a majority of the songs, but they do nothing but make you feel how strong and full of energy they are. Everything from the album cover, the booklet, to the credits are done perfectly. Every member shines on at least one of the songs, including the ODB. The album starts out strong with Chamber Music and Careful (Click, Click). It starts to get real ghostly with Hollow Bones and it's eerie sound. Redbull with Redman is a strong song that is very funny, typical of Red and Meth. One Blood Under W and Conditioner are the only two tracks that I didn't feel completely. They are good but the guest appearances didn't seem to fit properly. Their first single Protect Ya Neck (The Jump Off) is so enerygy filled with it's amazing beat and tight lyrics, GZA truly is the lyrical genius. Let My Niggas Live is also quite strong, Nas is also one of my favorites so I was glad to see the compilation on one song. I Can't Go To Sleep and Do You Really (Thang, Thang) are some of the best songs ever made. They just have that classic Wu sound and I know I will be listening to them everyday from now on. The Monument is a middle of the line song. I'm not that big on Busta Rhymes and he just feels out of place, but of course the rest of the Wu bring the song right back up. Gravel Pit is my song. I knew as soon as I heard it that this was going to be the next big hit. I love this song and have everyone I know listening to it now. The beat is pure fire and the lyrics are so tight and clean that you can't help but sing with them. The ending with Jah World is so good and just such a strong way to end the album of the year. From beginning to end this album is high calibur and high class Wu-Tang Clan. You can tell they spent all their time working on this album and that time spent living together helped them grow stronger and feel closer then ever, and it shows with this masterpiece of music!

Free Music Review: let's just cut to the chase
Hit: 5 Stars

I'll just cut to the chase:
1) Chamber music-amazing track, Meth destroys whatever mic he was spittin' on, solid verses from GZA and Masta Killa, but Raekwon steps up and carries the track.
2) Careful-didn't like this track that much but Capadonna stepped it up, as usual Inspectah Deck had it and of course Ghostface was fire
3) Hollow Bones-a Wu gem, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface and Raekwon did it like it should be done on a Wu album.
4) Redbull-great song from the start, Redman to Inspectah with another great Method Man verse in between/the song made it seem as if Redman joined up with Wu-Tang completely
5) One Blood Under W-I didn't really like the reagge like hook of Junior Reid but very solid verses from Masta Killa
6) Conditioner-ODB's only appearance, I never really like ODB that much but you gotta give it up, Didn't especially like Snoop's verse on this track
7) Protect Ya Neck-straight fire, I was a little taken aback by INS oppening the track but he managed to [take away] the show
8) Let My Ni**as Live-great song, as you would expect Nas was on point, joining him was Inspectah Deck, I think Raekwon's verse lacked
9) I Can't go to Sleep-amazing track with Isaac Hayes, I love when Ghosface raps like this, and RZA was fire
10) Do You Really-watch out for the DJ Kay Slay tape as well, great track, StreetLife joins Meth and Deck on "Kay Slay's track" and everybody has a solid verse, especially Inspectah Deck
11) The Monument-I'm not really a fan of Busta Rhymes latest work but his battle oriented verse was exceptional, a great cameo appearence for him here
12) Gravel Pit-you've heard it, you know, FIIIIIIIIIRE, espeacially meth
13) Jah World-unlike on #5 I like Junior Reid here, it also helped that Ghostface kicked the all around best verse of the whole album
Last track(Clap)-Great verses from Meth and the Chef and a pretty good one by Ghostface

All in all-great album and you need it

Free Music Review: Wu Comes Back Strong
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't understand why people say "this album is horrible" and such. I think this album is much better than Forever. It has fewer tracks, most of them being Wu Bangas. It just sounds better than Forever. All the tracks are awesome, but standouts are Hollow Bones, Gravel Pit, Protect Ya Neck, Do You Really, One Blood Under W, and I Can't Go To Sleep. "Hollow Bones" is great, with INS dropping FIRE on this track, his flow bobbing and weaving over the soulful sample and guitar riff. "Gravel Pits" has a great beat, and Meth and Ghost come correct here. "Protect Ya Neck" was the first song I heard from this album about four years ago, and when I heard it I was obsessed with Deck's verse. The rest of the song is great too; Ghostface as usual is fire, so are Meth, Masta Killa and the Genius. The beat to this song is true Wu. Although at first it doesn't sound like it, but as you get into the song, you can hear that Shaolin sound. "Do You Really" is introduced by Kay Slay, and the beat is crazy, as Meth and Masta Killa come strong on this track."One Blood," MK is fire on this. He has always had a great flow, and this song showcases it (finally). "I Can't Go To Sleep," the music is amazing. It is like the funk orchestras that the master and man on the hook here, Isaac Hayes did in the 70's. I like Ghost on this; you can feel the passion on this track.

This album is great. I rank it behind 36 Chambers and in front of Forever; I have yet to listen to Iron Flag in entirety. This album is more diverse than the Wu's previous two. Although nothing can come close to 36 Chambers, this album is amazing; people just won't acknowledge that because it is so different.
Look out for Tical 0: The Prequel by Meth May, Pretty Toney by Ghostface April 20th, and No Said Date by the Fifth Brother, Masta Killa in May.
