Free Music Notes for WFree Music Review: Wu-Tang Forever? Hit: 5 Stars
With such a long wait between records, almost 3 years in the case of the Wu, there's alway high expectations and anticipation. Will it be as good as the last record, or will it only prove to be a fluke? With The W, however, the Wu-Tang Clan reaffirms their stake as the best group in hip-hop. The thing that stuck me most about the record is that instead of trying to match their style to the kind of rap that's popular today, they remained true to the style that got them this far. Coming out with the club bangas "Protect Your Neck (The Jump Off)" and "Gravel Pit" automatically garnered attention for the record. On other tracks, like the sorrowful "I Can't Go To Sleep" and "Jah World", Ghostface and RZA prove that rap can still be a powerful expressive art form. Even in ODB's absense, the Clan still manages to get him on the record, most notably on the track "Conditioner" with Snoop Dogg, which showcases some of the craziness that he brought to the group. The haunting melody of "Hollow Bones" will keep you listening long after the cd gets old. RZA's production on the record shines through brilliantly. Returning as beat master, he mixes unconventional beats to match with the different styles of the Clan. There are a few places where the record falls short however. "Careful (Click,Click)" seems to have an overused beat and unispired lyrics, and "The Monument" would have been better had Busta Rhymes not been included. These are minor distractions however, and don't do much to detract from the album. If you are a fan of the Clan, or a fan of hip-hop in general, you owe it to yourself to buy this album. This is hip-hop at its finest, and hopefully newer groups will learn something from it. Wu-Tang Forever? You better believe it.
Free Music Review: THE W Hit: 5 Stars
Ever since the last Wu classic, Ghost Face's "Supreme Clientele", where fans were introduced to a "new and improved Wu Tang style", the anticipation has risen for the clans return, entitled, "THE W." The opus begins with the banger; "Chamber Music" where Rza production blends in with Rae and Meth's blazin flux. On, "Careful (click, click)" Rza's beat bangs harder than Shaq in the post, and everyone comes correct, even Cappadonna. "Hollow Bones" is a great track, with Rae and Ghost doin it Cuban Link style. On, "Protect ya Neck II (the jump off)" and "Do You Really" the WU takes a more commercial approach, which is good and the rhymes are still hard and raw. There is one somber moment though, the cluttered "Conditioner", ODB's only appearance is a let down and Snoop does nothing for the track. The best gems of this raw diamond are; "Gravel Pit", "Let My Niggaz Live" (Rae and Nas tear this track up, and god this bumps), "The Monument", and the Redman/Meth/Deck "Redbull." Also, there is some major creativity where new songs begin after songs end, and the reggae enspired "One Blood Under W" is a certified gem. "I cant go to Sleep" is a very innovative and poignant track, in which GhostFace pours all his soul over the track and Issac Hayes (yes, you damn right) is dubious on the chorus. In a word this is better than "Wu Tang Forever" by a hair, and is the best hip-hop album since "Chronic 2001." WU WU WU WU WU.......
Free Music Review: production/rhymes/words/and feeling all in one Hit: 5 Stars
i could not possibly praise this album anymore. wu-tang clan comes out here with their third cd and its stellar. i hate to compare a new cd by an artist/s but i want to make a reference here. 36 chambers had a rougher feel, a more underground feel, that is still here on the w but not to the same extent. i wont even talk about wu-tang forever. But, even though this new effort isn't has hardcore sounding the production is much better. RZA goes all out, creating things ive never heard before so to him i say outstanding. ODB is sadly missed however. he adds a very unique sound to the clan and without him really on the album it makes it sound a little less wholesome. METHOD MAN lights up the tracks hes on, a new style almost from him that is much prefered to what he had on tical 2000. One track that i want to emphisize is 'i can't go to sleep' (featuring isaac hayes) there is so much feeling in this song that when you hear it, you can't help but go along with whats being said. you really feel it. Two other track thats good is 'one blood under w' and 'conditioner'. 'one blood under w' is just sweet, if you buy this album you'll see what i mean and 'conditioner' is also great because ODB and Snoop Doggy Dogg pimp it out. Sure the content of the song is shallow (if you ask me) talking about how they are the ... and how wu-tang clan is the .... But two great rappers putin' it down, i can't help but love it. All and all this is an album you must buy if u want to hear as i said in the title..amazing production, rhymes, words and feeling. peace
Free Music Review: Something in the hall went....'click click' Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a wu fan since day one. I never ever thought they fell off but then again, i only purchased each member's first solo effort which was undeniably the best. This cd is "boring" to some people because they don't know how to listen to the wu. Rza's beats are so unique that oftentimes you have to listen to a track two or three times before you really get the feel...but after that you can't stop. wu isn't about commercializing their music like some other artists. there style is unique yet simple. Rza is definitely at his best on this lp and the guest star tracks are bangin'. The true wu fans know that wu never ever fell off and never ever will... wu tang forever. track review.. Chamber music---off the hook* Careful---probably the best and most unique track on the album* Redbull---redman rips it up and the production is tight* One blood---mastah killah represents * conditioner---snoop and previously recorded odb....phat as anything the wu has put out* the jump off---one listen says it all...dope* let my niggas live---nas puttin' it down for the '01* i can't go to sleep---rza and ghost make us sit back and think (isaac hayes is def. the man)* do you really---the only track not produced by rza, but bangin' just the same* the monument---even though busta didn't show when i went to see him live...i give him props..ill track (gza has the best verse on the album on this track)* gravel pit---dope* jah world---dope* clap yo hands---a nice surprise for those who buy the cd. the bonus track lives up to its name***
Free Music Review: Very good, underrated, slept on CD. Hit: 5 Stars
When I first listened to this cd, I thought, what is this crap? Now I love this cd and can listen to it from beginning to end. This cd is about lyrics first and beats second. This cd is about flow. In a year, this cd will still be hot. Every song on this cd is important. The Wu got off on this cd. Masta Killa should get a most improved award. He stands out to me with Ghostface as the stars of the cd. Bobby Digi, what can you say. Superb job. People have to realize that RZA is growing as a producer, so his beats will never be like they were when he did Enter the Wu Tang. There are more layers and content in his production now. His mic appearances are sparse but memorable. The songs are well crafted and flow one into the other. Some people don't like Conditioner with Snoop Dog, but I think this is one of those songs that a year from now, people will still be reciting Old Dirt Dog's stupid hook. It's catchy, just the the hook from Dog Sh*t on Wu Tang Forever. The only problem with the cd is that there are guest spots on the cd. WU TANG DOES NOT NEED GUEST SPOTS. I REPEAT. WU TANG DOES NOT NEED GUEST SPOTS. The guest surely stepped up their skills, but I would have liked to have heard more Inspector Deck, Raekwon and U God. Overrall, this cd ranks right up there behind Enter the Wu Tang and is a great cd that should be bought (not burned) and get heavy rotation on your cd player.
