Free Music Notes for The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a BookFree Music Review: E pluribus unum Hit: 5 Stars"E pluribus unum" is the motto on the coat of arms of the United States: "from the many, one." The motto holds out the promise that in this country, different cultures will meet and flow together into a greater whole. Well, this is exactly what Wyclef has accomplished musically in this brilliant CD. He uses hip-hop to take up other musical traditions, ranging from classical to rock, and transforms them, respectfully, into a larger composition. How well he does this becomes clear when one realizes, after listening to the CD many times, that it is indeed ONE piece of art, not a patchwork. It is wonderful that Wyclef also involves female guest artists, such as Mary J. Blige and Whitney Houston--thus further extending the scope of his music. Finally, the range of themes covered in the various songs is amazing: from love, in the great "911," to racism and the darkest social problems that afflict this country (in "Diallo"). This is the music of America in the twenty-first century.
Free Music Review: Wow Hit: 4 StarsI was really impressed with this album. Its like Wyclef Jean has a complete change through is CD. He changes his whole style through this CD. From the serious 911 to the hilarious Low Income. Wyclef really knows what he's doing here. The first song, Columbia Records, isn't really a song. Its about Wyclef's battle to put out a solo record. Where Fugees At? is an incredibly good song, with a nice background. I really liked the third song, it blended Kenny Rogers country background and the hip-hop of Pharoahe Monche. Thug Angels is another very good song with a crazy "interlude" in the middle. Wyclef's most popular song, It Doesn't Matter(it was popular because of guess who) isn't brilliant but it has a really good beat and it makes you want to dance. 911, another popular song, is good but Wyclef singing next to Mary J. Blige is not a very good comparison. Pullin Me In and Da Cypha, were really the only songs I didn't like. They sounded very repetitive. Runaway was great. With earth, wind, and fire providing the background and the wonderful voice of the Product G&B providing the vocals, this was a great song. LIsten to it all the way through, Wyclef has a neat guitar solo at the end. Here is where the CD changes to mostly jokes. Red Light DIstrict is a skit(guess what about). Perfect Gentlemen is about a girl who strips and I don't even know what Low Income is about. The rest of these songs are not jokes, but they were jumbled and it seemed like Wyclef ran out of things to say. Personally, I think that the CD should've ended after Low Income, but add Something About Mary. BUy this CD, its a good one.
Free Music Review: WELCOME TO A JOURNEY OF SOUNDS... Hit: 5 StarsTHERE HAS BEEN COMMENTS ABOUT SEPERATING RAP FROM HIP HOP, MAYBE WE SHOULD FOCUS MORE ON SEPARATING WYCLEF FROM RAP. HE'S SO MUCH BIGGER THAN THAT . THE CARNIVAL WAS THE FOUNDATION , THIS IS THE 999_TH STORY OF THIS GIANT SKY-SCRAPER THAT HE SYMBOLIZES. ELECTRIFIYING SOUNDS GUIDE YOU ALL THROUGHOUT THIS CD, WHILE EVERYONE IS BUSY BITING TUPAC AND BIGGIE , WYCLEF IS PERFECTING HIS CRAFT ON BEING THE MOST DARING AND UNPREDICATBLE HIP HOP ARTIST YOU EVER HEARD OR SEEN. THIS ALBUM HAS EVERYTHING THAT MAKES A PURE CLASSIC: 1) LYRICAL CONTENT:, HE'S GOT A MESSAGE AND IF YOU PAY ATTENTION INSIDE THE STORIES THERE ARE SMALLER STORIES WITH SMALLER OR LESS IMPORTANT MESSAGES BUT ALL COMBINE MASTERFULLY TO BLAST U AWAY WITH A SURPRISE.2) ORIGINAL SOUNDS: ..YOU HEAR YOUR GUITAR SOLOS , YOU GOT TRUMPETS SWEEPING YOUR EARS , BASS BUMPING, DRUMS PLAYING LIKE IN A CARNIVAL, THIS IS A BOMB FEST!! A BOAT LOADED WITH PERFECTED SOULFUL SOUNDS.. 3) STREET APPEAL: WHERE CARNIVAL LEFT OFF, THIS ALBUM PICKS YOU UP RIGHT IN THE MIDST AND CAPTIVATES YOU ...LISTEN TO " PULLIN' ME IN" , " 911" , " DA CYPHA"." RUNAWAY" - THIS IS PERHAPS HIS BEST SONG TO DATE- PLAYFUL AND DEEP LYRICS, HEAD-BOPPING BEATS, TALES OF AN UNDERRATED MC GIVING THE WORLD HIS POSITION IN THE CURRENT HIP HOP CIRCUS... I ONCE SAID THAT HIP HOP WAS GONNA BE THE LAST CULTURAL REVOLUTION OF OUR TIME, I HAVE TO ADD THAT WYCLEF WILL PERHAPS BE THE VERY LAST REMARKABLE PERSONALITY AND RAW TALENT OF THAT REVOLUTION.
Free Music Review: Another smash hit Hit: 4 StarsIt seems that whenever Wyclef Jean has something to do with an album or song it becomes a hit. He's in "The Fugees" they become raps best selling group. He writes that song for "Whitney Houston" it becomes a hit, and this album is no exception. He has people like Kenny Rogers on the album and they rule. Fans of gangster stuff will like "Where Fugees at?" and "Thug Angel" and every will like "Runaway" feat. Earth, Wind and Fire, "Friday", "911" feat. Mary J. Bligh, and all though its not a brilliant song "It Doesn't Matter" feat. Melky Sedeck and The Rock Buy this album, (and The Carnival).
Free Music Review: Wyclef brings it on Ecleftic... Hit: 5 StarsWhen i saw this cd in the record store i picked it up because i liked the duet with Mary J Blidge entitled "911", & when i listened to the cd i was amazed. Wyclef brings funk, soul, real positive Hip-Hop on this cd. He shines on tracks such as "Thug Angels", "911", Runaway", "Pullin Me In", "Perfect Gentlemen", "Something About Mary" & the list goes on. The key point of this album is that wyclef is real, & in hip-hop that is hard to define, he has unlimited styles & is a great lyricist. I have to admit i have never heard any hip-hop or r&b artist quite like wyclef, & he just surprises you more & more as he goes. This is by far one of the top 5 cd's of 2000, so dont front on it. Hes got something on this cd for everyone, so if youre a hip-hop fan then pick up this cd...
