The first and biggest problem with the score by composer John Powell is that it is ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS and in no way whatsoever does it tie into the excellent Michael Kamen X1 score (Which was VERY SOLID!) or the SOARING John Ottman X2 score (Easily the best of the 3 soundtracks!) which had some degree of overlap and drew from the same core melodic well. This new soundtrack makes no sense thematically, is not appealing in any way, and basically takes the audience hostage everytime it shows up because in addition to sucking it also is just TOO BIG for the film. Additionally, even when the acting and story are synchronized, which is most of the time, the music actually desynchronizes the audience from what's happening. If I could excise all the music from this movie and have Kamen, Ottman, or Giacchino redo the whole thing I would in a heartbeat!
