Free Music Notes for XX-Ray (3CD Best Of Box)Free Music Review: Well worth the money Hit: 5 StarsI rarely like to spend over $20 for imported music but I have made that rare exception with this lavished Sara Noxx best of compilation XX-RAY. I am a new fan to Sara Noxx's music. I discovered her last year through the internet and just fell in love with her brand of electro-pop (mainly through her latest project Essexx). After becoming hooked on her music with Essexx, I always wanted to hear Sara's solo work. Unfortunately her solo stuff is virtually impossible to find in the US. Thankfully she has made it a bit easier for me with her best of compilation XX-RAY. The 3 cd box set is definitely pricey. That's the biggest flaw here.
As for the actual box set, there are three cds. The first disc contains 21 original tracks which includes a new track called "Planet Earth". 71 minutes of irresistably melodic electro-pop makes this one disc worth the price I paid for the box set. There are some really beautiful, haunting songs on the cd like "Wherever I Am" and "Winter Again" which just moved my soul. Then there are the more uptempo songs such as "Colder & Colder" and "She" that just makes me want to get up and dance.
Discs 2&3 are either remix cd or new versions of Sara's songs that she did with other bands in another language. The first cd is a remixed cd which contains remixes by well known industrial bands like Seabound, Feindflug, Kirlian Camera, and Project Pitchfork.I enjoyed this remixed cd. Sara's music is given an extra boost by the remixers. The third disc is essentially like the first disc except Sara is collaborating with an array of foreign artists and the songs are sung in their native language.
The only thing I didn't like about XX-RAY is spending an arm and a leg for it. If you have the money, go for it. I definitely recommend buying XX-RAY. Sara Noxx is definitely an electro-pop artist worth checking out. Why she isn't more known here in the states boggles my mind. Her music is very accessible and undeniably infectious. If you don't want to spend that much money on this box set, I strongly recommend her other project Essexx which won't hurt your wallet so much.
