Free Music Notes for Xanadu on Broadway (Original Broadway Cast Recording 2007)

Free Music Review: It's a PARODY
Hit: 5 Stars

Lots of others have already reviewed this album on its voicing talents. What I would like to point out is that Xanadu is a PARODY on a movie that did absolutely horrible at the box office. It does not matter if you loved or hated the movie -- Broadway cast albums serve as a way to relive a musical after one has seen it! Stop saying Kerry Butler is bad "replacement" for Olivia Newton-John. This is the BROADWAY musical, not the Xanadu movie on stage. She is playfully mocking her in this musical and certainly has a voice of her own if you've seen her in anything else. And anyone who says that Cheyenne Jackson can't sing obviously has no ear for music at all.

So please, do not take Xanadu seriously. I mean, it's a show about a guy who wants to open up a roller disco after meeting a girl with an Australian accent who skates around. It doesn't even take itself seriously.

For the record Cheyenne Jackson and Kerry Butler are amazing.

Free Music Review: I love both the show and cast recording!
Hit: 5 Stars

Both the show and the cast recording are great! It was one of the most fun productions I have ever experienced!
On a side note, it seems that many of the people who harshly criticised the CD have never even seen the show. Unlike movie soundtracks, the songs in musical soundtracks embody the story and all components of the story. Sometimes these components include humor and exaggeration. Musical soundtracks are in a way an homage to, or souvenir from a show to relive the enjoyment experienced during the show. Therefore, sometimes one must see the show, to completely appreciate it. I don't think criticism should be given without experiencing or knowing all about what you are criticising. Once again, I loved the show! I also love the soundtrack! But, I have also experienced both, so I can criticise.

Free Music Review: This is great stuff!
Hit: 5 Stars

I've seen the show 4 times and thoroughly enjoy it each time. It's great to have all the music in a portable format so I can experience the show any time I want. I think Cheyenne Jackson has an incredible and strong voice. He has quite a career ahead of him as does Kerry Butler who is deliciously funny with her comic timing and accents not to mention her beautiful singing voice. Mary Testa adds another diva-type voice which perfectly complements Jackie Hoffman's campy attitude. Tony Roberts adds a certain refinement to the musical as he rounds out the whole performance with a gravely rendition of Gene Kelly. All in all a fun show and memorable CD. Thanks!

Free Music Review: A film flop goes from a "XanaDON'T" to a "XANDU"!
Hit: 5 Stars

This cast recording is wihtout a doubt the most witty, clever, and hilarious cast recording that I have ever purchased, and believe me, I have many. Kerry Butler's muse Clio is a delight, especially when she does a horrendously overdone Austrailian accent to give a nod to Newton-John. Cheyenne Jackson is also very good, as is Tony Roberts. However, it is Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa, who, as Clio's jelous sisters, will have you doubled over laughing, especially in their rendition of "Evil Woman," complete with guitar riffs, complimetns of Ms. Hoffman, and a fan dance. Don't miss this recording, or the show itself if you have the chance to see it.

Free Music Review: THE MOST FUN CD OF THE YEAR!
Hit: 5 Stars

The Original Broadway cast album for XANADU may possibly be the most fun of the year (certainly more witty than, say, Mel Brooks' YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN). Kerry Butler's jaw-droppingly hilarious take on Olivia Newton-John, Cheyenne Jackson's creamy vocals, the hilarious duo of Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa, and a killer chorus make this CD a must have! "Don't Walk Away" is a triumph on disc, as is "Magic", "Evil Woman" and "I'm Alive!" The packaging is up to PS Classics strict standards, and tops most of the past years, capturing aurally and visually everything fantastic about the little Broadway musical that could.
