Free Music Notes for Xanadu on Broadway (Original Broadway Cast Recording 2007)Free Music Review: Almost as good as seeing it live! Hit: 5 StarsXanadu has the reputation of being of being a bad movie. Can't argue with that. But the songs were amazing. The songs are by a very spirited cast make it very clear that this is not your 1980's Xanadu. Kerry Butler has an awesome voice and does a spot-on take on ONJ, Australian accent and all. Cheyenne Jackson matches her every step of the way and their chemistry makes it all work. I received this as a present and love it to death. You can indeed make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and Xanadu is it.
Free Music Review: BEST Thing on Broadway Hit: 5 StarsKerry Butler is wonderful, the show was wonderful, it's more than just redo's of the 1980 soundtrack, it has everything in wit, silliness and joy that's missing from, say, Young Frankenstein. GO SEE AND HEAR!
Free Music Review: I love both the show and cast recording! Hit: 5 StarsBoth the show and the cast recording are great! It was one of the most fun productions I have ever experienced!
On a side note, it seems that many of the people who harshly criticised the CD have never even seen the show. Unlike movie soundtracks, the songs in musical soundtracks embody the story and all components of the story. Sometimes these components include humor and exaggeration. Musical soundtracks are in a way an homage to, or souvenir from a show to relive the enjoyment experienced during the show. Therefore, sometimes one must see the show, to completely appreciate it. I don't think criticism should be given without experiencing or knowing all about what you are criticising. Once again, I loved the show! I also love the soundtrack! But, I have also experienced both, so I can criticise.
Free Music Review: When you can't live there... Hit: 4 StarsAlthough it's not as electric a thrill as the full live experience, listening to this recording brought me right back to the night I saw the show on Broadway, the fun, the laughs, the complete silliness of this show! If you haven't seen it, I don't know if this will help you "get it," but for those who have, this is great! And the liner notes are a treat, too!
Free Music Review: LOVE IT! Hit: 5 Starswonderful, fun, campy, hilarious, great catchy songs.
Kerry Butler is terrific and Cheyenne Jackson sounds AMAZING!
Top notch vocals from the chorus and Mary Testa and Jackie Hoffman are milking every bit of comedy from their performances.
Sounds like a fun night in the theatre!
PS Classics, as usual, creates another wonderful album.
