Free Music Notes for XodusFree Music Review: Come Ditty Dum! Hit: 5 StarsX-Clan's full body of work is incredible. Once again they are at the top of their game with this album for the ages. Simply put, this album is perfect and fits right in with everything they have put out. Xodus was X-Clan's 2nd effort and the last album before the band split ways. While almost the entire group has since passed on to the crossroads, Brotha J is still going strong... and nowhere is he stronger than on this album. His lines are delivered with such inflection that you can almost see his face as you listen. The lyrics are deep and touch on important themes of our times in only the way that X-Clan could deliver. The production is great. What I like the most about this album is that it is very spiritual. In my opinion, this is the most primal and spiritual of any X-Clan album. Brotha J is the greatest. Oh... you gotta get this! A classic. 5 stars? This should get a zillion stars.
Free Music Review: Welcome Black Hit: 5 StarsThis review is protected by the red, the black and the green with the key. Sissyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! The first time I heard a song from X Clan was on the show In Living Color. I heard Fire & Earth on that show and was impressed. Brother J has an impressive flow and his voice grabs you and keeps you hanging on to every line. Foreplay begins the album, as Professor X gives you the MO as to why Blackwatch exists. Cosmic Ark comes next as Brother J rips the track in half over the sample of Funky Sensation. A.D.A.M. was the second track I've heard from X Clan and Brother J is still sizzling. Professor X also raps on Cosmic Ark and Fire & Earth(100% Natural). F.T.P. also known as F*** The Police is self-explanatory as Brother J shows that he is fed up with police brutality. Fire & Earth was my favorite track back then from X Clan and you can tell their disdain for 3rd Bass just by listening to the intro. More gems would follow in the form of Holy Rum Swig and Ooh Baby. The rock & roll-inspired Rhythem Of God gets me hype everytime I hear it. As for weaknesses there are none. Unless you count this album being short as a flaw. Bottom Line: X Clan's Xodus is an Xcellent follow up to their first album To The East, Blackwards. The production was great, Brother J's rhymes were still sharp and he still gives you truth in those bars in each track. Its unfortuante that they never got the respect that they deserve and their influence is obvious in certain groups like say Dead Prez. All in all I would recommend this album to anybody who is a fan of conscious hip hop(the best thing that's ever happened to hip hop).
Standout Tracks: COSMIC ARK, A.D.A.M. XODUS,F.T.P., FIRE & EARTH(100% NATURAL), HOLY RUM SWIG, RHYTHEM OF GOD and VERBAL PAPP.
REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR X!!!!
Free Music Review: WHILE NOT AS ENJOYABLE AS THE FIRST, STILL STRONG FROM THE PINK CADDY!!!! Hit: 4 Starsnow i did not enjoy this one as much as the first one, but it still hits in its own special way. i do not know what happened after this one, but i know this, they will never be forgotten by me. the one that does it for me is FIRE AND EARTH. this is like a bee with too much sugar at the right time. i wonder sometimes what more they could've done if they had kept it together, man. we will never know now. once again, RIP, professor x.
Free Music Review: Ooh Baby, vainglorious way....YOU SISSYYYYYY!!! Hit: 5 StarsSome people man...just don't understand, you either get X-Clan or you don't.
Those that do will forever rock their praises for being among the best pro-black/afro centric/political/socially conscious groups ever (up there with Public Enemy and Poor Righteous Teachers). Those that don't, seem to feel that their music lacks tight lyrics and that Professor X is annoying...so be it, X-Clan didn't make music for you sissies.
The X-Clan's main members are the infamous "Grand Verbalizer Funkin'-Lesson Brother J" (lead vocals and production), "Baba - Professor X The Overseer" (vocals and production) and "The Architect Traxtitioner Paradise" (production). This trio made being pro-black funky, and "Xodus" their follow-up to the incredible "To the East Blackwards," picked up right where the 1st album ended. "Xodus" radiates the same messages found in the first album, but X-Clan seem more confident in this album. The beats are still super-funky (lots of P-Funk), but more smoothed out and less hard-hitting - don't get me wrong, I think it sounds better and as a result this album BUMPS smooth, funnky beats while Brother J tears the mic with more passion than ever. In fact, one of the best aspects concerning the X-Clan is that the two MC's Brother J and Professor X are very different and unique - I hate it when every member of a group sounds the same. Brother J has an incredibly unique deep-bass voice and despite the fact that his lyrics won't make you lick-a-shot in the air, his flow is top-notch. I know alot of people who hate on Professor X because "he doesn't rhyme," and/or "he just talks," etc. Sissies. Professor X is the X-factor that makes the X-Clan who they are. His smooth vocals add flavor and I find his unique presence fitting to the tracks. No other group has successfully produced a non-rhyming, Overseer who went on to release 2 (yes, two) solo albums.
So either you love it or hate it, personally I funkin' love this album. If you haven't heard "Xodus" (or the X-Clan) before and are a dedicated fan of old-school Hip-Hop, I strongly suggest you find a way to get your hands on this (and their first) album. If you listen with an open, prejudice free ear - I bet you'll be calling people sissyyyyyyy in no time.
Bottom Line: It's truly not for everyone, but I back the X-Clan and especially "Xodus" 100%. This album is a classic, 5 Stars, Peace.
