Free Music Review: The second Xzibit album; a pretty solid record.
Hit: 3 Stars

Following Xzibit's underground classic At The Speed Of Life, the successor, 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz had a lot to live up to. It certainly manages to go new and exciting places; tracks like Chamber Music, 3 Card Molly, What U See Is What U Get and Shroomz reflect a sense of adventure and growth as X to the Z explored exciting new areas to take his music. Somehow, 40 Dayz seems slightly more forced and less flowing than its predecessor but no less real; Handle Your Business, Los Angeles Times, Focus and Deeper are smart and authentic representations of street knowledge. There are a few hair-raising moments, such as the "Jason/48 Months" skit where a recorded message of Xzibit receiving a long-distance call from his imprisoned brother in Michigan plays over a pulsating tone as X promises that they will ride again together in four years time. There seems to be a fairly large amount of filler mateiral, however, which seems lacking in the inspiration department. But the undisputed best moment comes at the end with "Recycled Assassins" where Xzibit raps desperately and poignantly about the rushed and squandered youth of himself and his brothers and sister making it on their own with no mother: "My younger brother gave less than a f**k, he was content with G.I. Joe and Tonka trucks," he raps at one point, and comes back at the end to make your hair stand right up: "Visitors day, my younger brother came down, put the toys down, excited about the first round he bust, I was crushed to see, the solution to the problem could have started with me, but it's on now," while Montageone laments on the hook: "Season after season, they recycle assassins." This was the last album Xzibit made before making it big on the major scene, and although this is not his best album, it certainly is inspiring to hear the desperation and the anguish in the voice and lyrics of the man who would go on to finally blow up and become one of the best-selling and most respected rap artists in the United States of America.

Free Music Review: Second best X album
Hit: 4 Stars

This is a good album, not as good as "at the speed of life" but still above average, his lyrics stand out above any other westcoast rapper. Definetely a must buy. There are nice tracks on this album like "what you see is what you get" and "Los Angeles Times." will have your head bangin. A nice addition to anyones' collection.

Free Music Review: The most underrated album of all time.
Hit: 5 Stars

I own all four of Xzibit's albums released so far, and this one is definately not only his best, but one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. It starts out with an intro (which uses the beat from "Paparazzi") which explains something about a trial going on and goes into "Chamber Music". Some of the better tracks from then on include "3 Card Molly", the first single "What U See Is What U Get", "Handle Your Business", "P*ssy Pop", "Los Angeles Times", "Inside Job", and my personal favorite, "Deeper." All of the songs are good (even "Shroomz"), but those are my favorites. It's too bad Xzibit hasn't been able to top this. Dr. Dre is a good producer but Xzibit was much better off with Sir Jinx & DJ Muggs. If you haven't heard this album yet, I highly reccomend it. Believe me, you'll be listening to it with the speakers turned way up.

Free Music Review: good cd
Hit: 4 Stars

I have all of Xzibits CDs and lately I've been enjoying his 'pre-dre' stuff

if you liked At the Speed of Life, you'll like this as well...its nowhere near as good, but it has some tight tracks...What You See Is What You Get, Shroomz, Los Angeles Times just to name a few

It sounds similar, but the last one was a bit more party-ish while dark at the same time...this one is even MORE party-ish while even darker at the same time

Start with ATSOL if you only know Xzibit through Restless or Man vs Machine...then check this one out

Free Music Review: 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz
Hit: 5 Stars

Nineteen-ninety-eight proves to be a strong year for west coast hip-hop. Xzibit wastes little time returning to the rap scene with the follow-up to his 1996 debut At The Speed Of Life [ECD], which bore well-received singles "Paparazzi" and "Foundation." Amazingly, the aggressive-rapping artist managed to compose an album that outshines his impressive freshman release.

40 Dayz & 40 Nightz is a solid effort from beginning to end. Perfect tracks include the immediate certified classic "3 Card Molly," repetitive keys and pounding bass boomer "Focus," piercing violins and drum-styled synthesizer orchestration "Deeper," and signature plucked-guitar posse cut "Let It Rain" featuring other Likwit crew members Tha Alkaholiks and King Tee.

Xzibit separates himself from many of his peers with freestyle flair by also making sure to incorporate motivating subject matter. Along those lines, you'll find "Handle Your Business," "Focus," "Deeper" and "Outro," which includes proud closing words from his father.
