Free Music Review: West Coast 151 Proof Likwit Rhymin'
Hit: 4 Stars

This is a really good album. Why did Xzibit have to hook up with Dr. Dre?? Boo.

On "At the Speed of Life," Xzibit was still warming his lyrical chops up, and there was definite talent there. He had the right voice, the right delivery, and DEFinitely the right producers. And "40 Dayz..." is just the next step up.

The production on this entire album is pretty tight, as X spreads the board duties around. Producers as diverse as Soopafly, Montageone and E-Swift make contributions to the disc, all of them tight.

For highlights, take a gander at the following: "Chamber Music" samples the beat from Queen's "We Will Rock You" and flips it with some ominous strings for a vicious opener. The heavy bounce of "What You See Is What You Get," "Nobody Sound Like Me," and "Los Angeles Times" will keep you moving, and the Likwit Crew cut "Let It Rain" hits like a 20-lb. sledge, culminating in the syncopated interplay of the melancholy "Recycled Assassins."

But my personal favorite highlight is the bounciest track on the disc, "Pussy Pop." Yes, it's also the most juvenile and the most vulgar, but it's just so much fun to listen to, as Xzibit swaps verses with Jayo Felony (in what I must say is a very good guest appearance). Method Man even shows up on the hook, literally. Apparently he just showed in the studio and asked if he could do the hook. And BAM, great song.

There are some flatliners, though. "Shroomz" plods along, and "Handle Your Business" is a little boring, but they don't detract too much from the overall good vibe.

This is a really good album. I just hope "The Restless LP" doesn't ruin Xzibit's underground credibility, which is the basis for his success thus far. You don't need Dre...

xzibit does a pretty good job with this album.it has tight songs like "3 card molly","what you see is whta you get now","pussy pop","los angeles times",and "let it rain".its a good cd overall and its also an enhanced cd so you get some extras if you got a computer.

Free Music Review: Good album with some momentary lapses
Hit: 4 Stars

This is Xzibit's follow-up to his debut album, "At The Speed Of Life." On this album, Xzibit displays growth as an overall MC, his lyrics and raw flow both being improved.
"What U See Is What U Get" is just raw, easily the best track on the album. "3 Card Molly," featuring Rass Kass and Saafir, is an entertaining track showcasing the trio's lyrical skills. And "Los Angeles Times" is another nice track with a great bassline. Other bangin tracks include "Focus," "Deeper," and "Inside Job."
Where the album falters is in some of the production. Although the tracks listed above are all well-crafted, others on this album are not. Case in point--"Nobody Sound Like Me," the perfect example of what you get when you cross a lame beat with an un-interesting hook. "Shroomz" features some funny lyrics over an all-out WACK beat, making it very hard to listen to.
Fortunately (at least HOPEFULLY), this problem will not exist on X to the Z's forthcoming album, which will feature mostly Dr. Dre behind the boards. But still, even with a few wack beats, this is still a recommended album. If you're a fan of West Coast hip-hop, you should have "40 Dayz & 40 Nightz" in your collection.
