Free Music Notes for Restless

Free Music Review: Very disapointed.
Hit: 3 Stars

Restless is a surprisingly mundane effort from X to the Z. After having some truly memorable cameos as well as one hit song under his belt I was excited about the prospect of Restless. Also, when I saw it was produced by Dre I thought it was a 'can't miss effort'. However, I was unpleasantly surprised.

I am not saying the CD is trash. There are some really memorable efforts on here. "X", "Alkaholik", "Double Time", and "Don't Approach Me" are all worth a listen. That said, none of these songs are especially powerful. They are solid rap efforts that I like to listen to.

The big problem I have with Restless is that I become restless when listening to it. X manages to put together a painfully ordinary lineup of standard Xzibit jive. He's hard core, he's a heavy drinker, and that's about all. X falls flat on his ass on his attempt at meaningful expression: "I'm Sorry I'm Away so Much". This song sucks hard. I appreciate that X wants to send a message to his son on the disc, but you gotta go it a little better, man.

Something X will always be fighting is that he is the jack of all trades, master of none. He is somewhat funny, somewhat hard core, somewhat drug related, somewhat violent, and has a somewhat interesting style. This combination causes the CD to lose a lot of its power.

After listening to it all the way through there are few memorable moments. There are some good tracks, but none that I wanted to listen to again and again. I hate to come off like I'm busting his chops because I really love what he does. When he's doing it well. This album just doesn't do it for me though. I can sum it up in one word: unremarkable.

Free Music Review: xzibit is the man, the beats are good
Hit: 4 Stars

yep you heard it right. mr x to the z truly is the man. he is in the top 5 lyricists (according to me) on the west coast. (following kurupt, ras kass, e-40, crooked i). i had his first album "at the speed of life" which is amazing, check it out; yet and still this may be more commercial yet still stellar and worth buying. xzibit tears up every track. it's funny on "DNA" featuring snoop dogg where u can hear snoop trying with all his might to keep up with xzibit but falls way short. "f%$#@n you right" has a weird soopafly beat but is still a very funny song and good lyrics. "alkaholik" has to be one of the best posse cuts with its funky eric sermon beat and a lyrical free for all featuring tha liks and x. "best of things" showcases a great beat by dr dre and with the man on the lyrics he makes the song a classic. i don't wanna forget the singles "front2back" by rockwilder, which has one of the hottest beats of ALL TIME and "x", another dr dre classic smash which sets off this album. there were a couple of songs with throwaway beats like "sorry i'm away so much", a big letdown by dj quik, and "rims and tires" which should've been canned from the get go. but with these couple of flaws nothing can stop mr x to the z from rocking. he truly is an amazing lyricist and should stop being criticized by these people who think he's garbage or commercial. it's apparent they haven't listened to him then. and one last thing i have to say snoop dogg couldn't mess with xzibit on his best day and x's worst day!

Free Music Review: Restless
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is definately one of my favorite West Coast albums of all time, and is highly reccomended.

1.Intro/Restless
2.Front 2 Back-Produced by Rockwilder-5/5-Hot production and great flow/lyrics from XZ, one of the best songs on the CD
3.Been A Long Time featuring Nate Dogg-Produced by Battle Cat-4/5-Hot production, and the chorus by Nate is a great addition, but Xzibit isnt at the top of his game lyrically
4.U Know featuring Dr. Dre-Produced by Dr. Dre, Nottz & Scott Storch-5/5-Great song, Dre shows he can still drop a nice verse
5.X-Produced by Dr. Dre, Mel-Man & Scott Storch-5/5-Xzibit's first big single, the song that launched him into the mainstream. Hot song, too.
6.Alkaholik featuring Erick Sermon and J-Ro & Tash of Tha Liks-Produced by Erick Sermon-5/5-Great Erick Sermon production, on an overall great song
7.Kenny Parker Show 2001 featuring KRS-One-Produced by Xzibit & Thayod-5/5-Remake of BDP's 'Kenny Parker Show' (same beat, too), with KRS playing the role of hypeman this time, one of the best songs on the CD
8.D.N.A. (Drugs N Alchohol) featuring Snoop Dogg-Produced by Rick Rock-5/5-I love the production on this one, great guest apperance by Snoop, too
9.Double Time-Produced by Erick Sermon-5/5-More top notch production from Erick Sermon, and Xzibit shows why he's a top 50 MC
10.Don't Approach Me featuring Eminem-Produced by Eminem-5/5-I really don't like Eminem's solo stuff (with the exception of Slim Shady LP & some other songs), but I usually love his guest apperances for some reason
11.Rimz & Tirez featuring Defari, Goldie Loc & Kokane-Produced by Soopafly-4/5-Very good song, pretty basic beat with a little west coast flavor
12.F***in You Right-Produced by Soopafly-4.5/5-Some of the best production on the CD (courtesy of Soopafly) and Xzibit's flow is great on this one
13.Best Of Things-Produced by Dr. Dre-5/5-Nice production by Dre, and one of Xzibit's best tracks lyrically
14.Get Your Walk On-Produced by Mel-Man & Battle Cat-5/5-Best produced song on the album, and one of the best overall
15.Sorry I'm Away So Much featuring DJ Quik & Suga Free-Produced by DJ Quik-5/5-Great track dedicated to Quik & Xzibit's kids, nice change of pace and one of Xzibit's best tracks lyrically
16.Loud & Clear featuring Butch Cassidy, Defari & King T-Produced by Battle Cat-4/5-A nice beat, some hot verses and Butch Cassidy's smooth chorus make this a very good song

Highly reccomended
