Free Music Review: XZIBIT'S BEST ALBUM EVER
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is awesome. It features the hits "X" & "Front 2 Back". It is produced by Dr. Dre so it has awesome production. It also has some production by DJ Quik. This album is definitley worth buying.

Free Music Review: Gone downhill
Hit: 2 Stars

Xzibit's debut was awesome. his 2nd was very good. this being his 3rd was OK, nothing special. and obviously man vs machine has to be his worst album. Anyway, onto the review, this overall was a major disappointment - it just doesn't have enough good songs on it. Sure, there are some gems, such as X, Kenny Parker Show, Get Your Walk On, and Sorry I'm Away So Much, but thats just about it. There are some not bad/average tracks, then the rest are pathetic. Alkaholic is one of the worst songs, it has one of the most corniest beats ever, and the lyrical content is pathetic. Only buy this if you are a die-hard Xzibit fan. If you want Xzibit at his best, then get At The Speed Of Life, and 40 Dayz 40 Nightz, because they are both far better than this.

Free Music Review: To A Music Fan
Hit: 4 Stars

Remember, I'm just saying this, don't take offense.

Calling X a misogynist is really an offense. I bet you're judging him as an artis by this one album. Well, if you'd heard At the Speed of Life, and/or 40 Dayz and 40 Nightz, you wouldn't say this. Songs like Paparazi, where he talks about rappers in it for the money, The Foundation, where he talks to his son in the same fashion as Em to Hailie, Carry the Weight, where he talks about his rough upbringing, Handle Your Buisness, where he talks about people standing up for themselves, Recycled Assasins, where he teams up with Likwit Crew (who're better then Tha Alkoholics) to talk about their upbrinings, and a few songs on his newer albums. Also, yeah, he says the N word, so does almost every other rapper. They're not insulting each other, tha's just how black rappers talk. Also, if I were black, I'd be very offended by your using of the word, seeing as based on your opinion, you're white. Xzibit's lyrics can go a bit onto the misogynistic (whatever) side, but not as bad as other rappers.

Free Music Review: As far as I'm concerned, THE leading thug rapper...
Hit: 4 Stars

...and I'm not normally a fan of thug rap. I'm generally a conscience hip-hop fan. I value positive message in music as much as I value beats and rhymes, however, without shining lyricism and at least half-ways decent production, a CD isn't worth buying. Restless boasts outstanding production and lyrical warfare above and beyond what you find in mainstream rap today. Normally, I advocate for the underground hip-hop scene, but after buying this CD, loving it, and researching more into Xzibit's career and guest appearances, I learned that Xzibit is nowhere near your typical mainstream 'gansta rapper', which is by the way, also noticeable on this CD. However, "Restless" is given the now mainstream edge of Dr. Dre, which is actually an interesting experiment for Xzibit, and ultimately in my opinion, an improvement.

Xzibit is an emcee with roots deep underground and branches well established in the main-stream. Xzibit has good connections with the underground, however, his flow is completely the opposite of other mainstream-underground artists, for instance Kweli. Mainly, Xzibit's rhymes 99% of the time, bring along with his genius wordplay the baggage of some serious language and vulgarity. Even by the low standards of todays rap scene, Xzibit will make your eyebrows raise and your stomach churn more than once with his unflinching delivery of verses devoted to sex, violence, and misogynism, all with an impressive amount of swearing, I might add. This sums up about the only reason I gave this record a four star rating.

The positives of this record seem to outweigh the negatives by a fair amount though. For instance, Xzibit seems to have a passion for every line he spits (which can be disturbing at times, for instance when he's rapping about having sex with his friend's wife..). Things like that deterred me from the album at first. I bought it, listened to it, and at first thought I hated it. It grew on me quickly though, since I began to recognize just how talented Xzibit is with his words, and an appreciation for his rugged style overthrew my dislike for the album in a day or two. Although Xzibit seems like one of those rappers who puts conscience rappers to the dirt, he really doesn't, and has something to contribute to hip-hop in his own way. He has lyricism and production backing him up. It's the artists who rap about the same things that Xzibit does without good lyricism or production who I hate and resent for giving hip-hop a bad name. There's one good thing in 'content' that can be said for Xzibit; he's not as materialistic as your normal rapper. Sure, he'll throw in a line here and there about 'decorating your neck and your wrist', but aside from that, he's really much more down to Earth. Yeah, that's how you could describe Xzibit, down to Earth with a 'glass half-empty' sort of view of the world. I know Xzibit complains constantly about people critiquing his music, but I'm not doing this for him. I'm just trying to give people an idea of what they're buying when they get this album. Despite all my criticism, I really do like this album, a lot, and Xzibit needs to be recognized as a leader in raw, musical talent.

Here's a quick summary.

PRO'S
*Outstanding wordplay
*The talented touch of Dr. Dre, backing Xzibit's lyrics with the production he needs.
*A down to Earth, even if negative, view of the world.

CONS
*An unbelievable amount of swearing accompanied with entire songs devoted to violence, alcohol and sex. Even by todays standards, this CD is ranked among the most vulgar albums recorded.

All in all, this CD is more than worth buying, and despite all my negative comments on this record, I recommend (for those who are not light of heart) to get this album, or at least check it out. Xzibit brings a whole new meaning to lyricism, and raises the bar in hip-hop for wordplay.
