Free Music Review: Weapon of Mass Deception (2and 1/2 stars)

This album blows for a couple of reasons. 1. Xzibit doesnt sound as hungry as he did on his first two albums. 2 his group, Strong Arm Steady are lyrical misfits(I mean these dudes are wack like Hillside Scramblers and American Cream Team wack). 3 the production done by Jelly Roll is awkward(his beats sound like Battlecat's production on coke). The Good:Criminal Set is good and Keri Hilson provides a dope chorus for Ride Or Die. Back 2 The Way It Was is one of the better cuts on the album because it vaguely reminds you of the old Xzibit. Honorable mentions:Judgement Day and Hey Now(mean muggin). The Bad: Lax is bland to say the least and Xzibit sounds like he is going through the motions on that track. Scent Of A Woman is X's failed attempt at a song for the ladies and it should have never been recorded. Cold World needs to be redone. Its not necessarily awful but it is kind of weak even for an Xzibit track. The Ugly: Saturday Night Live and Mutha***** should have been Michael Jordan slam dunked into the studio trash can. The latter having the dumbest hook since Rubberband Banks. Crazy Ho is so bad I'm not even going to waste time to explain it. Beware Of Us not only has a corny beat that sounds like it was produced by Eminem,it also has a horrible performance by Xzibit's wack crew Strong Arm Steady and one of those dudes sounds like Bizarre of D12 choking on a biscuit. Not only do they ruin that track they also ruin Klack and the other member sounds so off when he rhymes. Busta Rhymes does a tepid performance right along with Xzibit on Tough Guy and that hook sounds like they came up with it on the spot plus the beat provided by Hi-Tek is one of his lamest beats ever. Bottom Line: This is Xzibit's worst album period. I've been listening to him since At The Speed Of Life so I know what he is capable of and this album doesnt show that at all. Just lukewarm raps from him and trash raps from his crew(who he needs to 86 with the quickness). What's messed up is that this will be somebody's first time hearing a full album from him and think that this is the best that Xzibit has to offer. Far from the truth. Start with At The Speed Of Life and stop after Man Vs. Machine. This is his worst effort. Dont let anybody tell you different.Free Music Review: Definite Banger

Man people's is tripping this is one of the best albums that came out that year.
He raps about all different things from struggles, to wilding out at the club to just straight lyricism...
The lyrics , the flow, the beats is: Wow: X is back, considered yallselves warned...

Whatever happened to the OLD Xzibit when he was in his PRIME!!?? Yo this album is maddd whack!! I know he's got the lyrical skill, and I respect him for that but every emcee knows that you need good rhymes AND BEATZ. When hip hop started...it was ALLLLL about the beatz. I'm only feelin 5 songs on this album. Only tight songs are #'s 2,7,8,9,and 16. Don't waste your time on listening to all the other commercialized SELL OUT beatz! Yo Xzibit, I got some advice....take us back to your ALKAHOLIKZ Roots...Remember them days?? Tha alkaholikz and Xzibit...wasn't that great? I only recommend Xzibit's first 3 albums. Xzibit doesn't have any other good albums other than his first 3. And yo.....even his third album "Restless"..THAT one was even leaning more towards the mainstream commercialized diarrhea bullcrap. But it was still aaight. It passes. But I recommend y'all DEFINATELY go cop "At the speed of Life" and "40 Dayz & 40 Nightz". Those first two albums was when X to tha Z was at his Prime! Like most people, the first time I ever heard of Xzibit was on the MTV show "Pimp My Ride" which he hosts (A great show). After hearing "Hey Now" on the radio, and being a huge rap fan, I decided to try out "Weapons of Mass Destruction", which was reviewed to be a pretty good album. I was lucky I could find it at a used CD store for five or six bucks, because it never made it out of my car. After listening to the entire album on the way home (I was on a businees trip) I threw it in the trunk, not planning to take it out again.
Xzibit is not really that bad of a rapper. His street-hardened lyrics combined with his angry delivery are nice to hear, along with a storytelling talent ("Cold World") that most rappers today lack. The problem is that the production and flow of the album are some of the worst I have heard in years. Literally every song on the CD contains these super-annoying R&B type choruses that ruin the entire track. "Ride and Die" and "Crazy Ho" are some of the worst. His selection of guest artists are weak also, featuring none of the rappers that could have filled in the empty space that X left, such as Ludacris. "Hey Now (Mean Muggin')" is probably the best song on the album, and the only one I could really listen to with any respect. But even that one is miles behind any other big rapper today. And how in the world is "Muthaf**ker" featured as a single? It's easily one of the worst songs I have ever heard in my life, seriously.
The bottom line: Xzibit has some potenial, but he just doesn't use it. He needs to ante'-up his arsonal and get some new choruses, cutting the singing. As for this album: Trust me, its a waste of money.
Free Music Review: Won't Do Mass Destruction, But Will Still Cause Damage (Rating: 8 out of 10- -4 stars)

Around the time when this album was released, I was really skeptical about what Xzibit was going to bring to the table with "Weapons Of Mass Destruction". At that time, I only heard "Restless" (2000) which was decent, and then "Man Vs. Machine" (2002) which was horrible. Somehow Xzibit became one of my favorite rappers within that time period, possibly becasue he made an impact being a featured artist on another album (see Snoop Dogg's "B Please" and anything he has made with Tha Alkaholiks). After deciding to download the album, I thought it was real impressive, and about a week later I purchased it.
With "Weapons Of Mass Destruction", a lot of people claim that X's lyrics have been slipping. The album opens up with a well manipulated voiced speech from George Bush. I have to admit that that is true throughout portions of this album, but at the same time, he manages to get his point across. "Cold World", he becomes political exlaing evil that goes on within people's lives. While on "Tough Guy", he and Busta Rhymes go on a thugged out cut that sounds good to me.
Xzibit introduces his new group Strong Arm Steady who inhabits most of this album as well. The problem with that group is the songs that they are on are either hit or miss. Some songs that hit are "Saturday Night Live" and the second single "Criminal Set". My favorite song on here would be "Klack" which features Krondon from the group which is very nice to listen to. The songs that miss are the "Beware Of Us" because it sounds kind of weak, and "Crazy Ho" would be another skippable track. The latter song Xzibit doesn't even appear on.
As for anything else bad. Some of the production wouldn't appeal to many listeners, but I find it to be good. And "LAX" is another track that I found forgettable. Also I found the lead single "Hey Now" kind of weak, but I can still listen to it every once and a while. And if you're a long time fan, you'll notice that guest appearances from anyone from the Likwit Family is greatly missed. Other than that, I find this album to be a good effort from Xzibit. People claim that this isn't a good CD. I admit, it's not Xzibit's best, but it is more consistant than some of his albums throughout his career. If you haven't heard this, give it a try and hear how it sounds. There may be some low points throughout this CD, but it is one I can still listen all the way through from time to time.
