Free Music Review: Nice return. Great stuff by Yanni, as always.

I won't try to get fancy here. Yanni is back with a gem of a CD. The mix of instrumentation gives this album a new and fresh invigorating feel. There is enough of the slow and pretty piano or keyboard stuff here as well so that you don't ever feel like you're listening to someone else's work This is Yanni's stuff and you KNOW it.
Rites Of Passage- Reminiscent of a work by Adiemus. Vocal heavy with beautiful piano and keyboard passages
For All Seasons- This reminded me a BIT (but not in a bad way) of "ARIA" It has BEAUTIFUL choral parts and a driving beat in it.
The Promise- Heavy on NICE piano and keys, the first song with lyrics that seem to be more words than sounds. Very nice
Rainmaker- A GRAND tune with beautiful violin, piano, keys and Australian Didjeridoo among other instruments. Fast and adventurous
Written On The Wind- Another quick one with steady drums softly played. Exotic winds, female vocals.
Playing By Heart- VERY nice. Yanni's keyboard work is mixed with Uilleann (Irish) pipes, luscious saxophone, Mid-East style percussion and other lovely instrumentation.
At First Sight- Soft and mid-tempo. Nice piano and flute work here. A SOFT steady drumbeat and LOVELY violin work as well appear here in this piece. Not slow, but not fast either. Nice and romantic and passionate.
Tribal Dream- This one is HEAVILY African in flavor. It is FILLED with a strong drumbeat and native African chant-like vocals. Beautiful keyboard and choral work appear here as well.
Almost A Whisper- This a BEAUTIFUL recording, returning from another album Yanni did some time ago. This time it has BEAUTIFUL lyrics in it that REALLY make you feel the yearning and passionate love of the singer toward the man she loves and adores. Yanni's piano work is BEAUTIFUL in this peice and he is accompanied in it by some really GORGEOUS string work. This one is a WEEPER. Bring your Kleenex, but you should still love this one.
Never Too Late- Nice flute and mid-tempo piano and keys. This one is adventurous and gives a feeling of energy and joy. Great exotic sounding string work too.
Play Time- NICE choral work in this one. The keyboard melodies are fast sometimes and resemble techno music, especially the way they mix with the synthesized drum beat and the exotic string work in this piece. The speed of it makes me think of a techno dance tune, but as they often say, it's all good. :)
Jivaeri- This one is slow and melancholy but beautiful. It is a fitting closer to this CD. The slow piano work, mixed with the steady drums and beautiful Greek vocals give this the feeling of a sad but beautiful and tender ballad. According to Yanni himself, it is a personal favorite song of his and depicts a mother lamenting that her son has gone to America forever, even though she knew that she had to let him go so that he could have a better life than he could have ever had at home in his native Greece.
All told, this album has EVERYTHING. Joy, passion, sorrow, adventure and tenderness. It gives us a bit of everything, and ever bit of the spectrum of human emotions that Yanni is an expert at tapping into. Pick it up and enjoy it. You just might fall in love with this CD like I did.
