Live at the Acropolis was his big breakout and well worth your time. However his early, more rock stuff is fun to listen too.
Fun fact: Yanni used to date Linda Evans!
Free Music Review: Yanni rocked the house..... sallymarr from Ohio Hit: 5 Stars
I had the great fortune to attend the Ethnicity 2003 and 2004 World Tour, in Dayton Ohio March 14th. My first Yanni concert and I wasn't disappointed in the least and the crowd in attendance agreed.... standing ovations and shouts of WE LOVE YOU YANNI were abundant..... during intermission, I purchased the cd and have not stopped playing it.... if anyone is hesitant about buying this cd, don't be..... cut number 2... For All Seasons will get your juices pumping and your brain rocking... this is my "doing housework song"..... there is something for everyone.... from rocking to more sublime...... he has many world flavors in this tour and cd..... from the Australian outback with sounds of the didgeridoo to a Chinese flute to the sounds of India..... and of course Yanni was center stage of it all..... as the lady from Georgia said in a previous reviews... they all looked as if they were enjoying themselves tremendously and are all so talented. Drummer Charles Adams did a drum solo that was like nothing I had ever witnessed before.... I promise, I promise that you will not be sorry if you purchase this cd.
Free Music Review: Very Powerful & Different Hit: 5 Stars
I applaud Yanni for giving us a CD that is different from what he would normally produce. While it is not as soft as many of his other CDs it is just what it indicates-Ethnically diverse. I was also impressed with the introduction of instruments you would not normally hear such as the didgeridoo. I also had the good fortune of attending the Ethnicity concert in Kansas City. My husband and I were completely blown away and we encourage others to consider going if he is in your area. There is so much energy from the performers (many of whom had an opportunity to showcase thier abilities). This is defiately a great CD to own. I like having the option of listening to music which is more lively from time to time and sure others do as well. For those of you that purchased the CD and disliked it, (and in some cases destroyed it) you can as I discovered go to the Yanni web page and listen to the entire CD for free. Who purchases a CD without getting a sample taste first anyway? That is like test driving a car without taking it for a spin. Doesn't make much sense does it?
Free Music Review: Yanni : Ethnicity Hit: 5 Stars
Absolutely a truely WONDERFUL CD. I am very, very *pleased* with this YANNI CD. I have MANY, MANY of YANNI's CDs. But this one is near the top of all of the ones that I do have. YANNI is a wonderful musician and performer. But as far as my own likes, I personally like his music with his accompaning orchestra. Which this CD, "Ethnicity" has. I just had the wonderful opportunity to see him in a live concert in Atlanta, GA March 11, 2003. At NO time was I disappointed. He and every member of his musical team acts professionally and everyone also provides a WONDERFUL musical performace. It is obvious that YANNI's team enjoys their love of music, performing and enjoyment of the fans. If you are a true YANNI fan and lover, as I am, this is one CD that is a MUST for your YANNI's musical CD collection. I do not believe you will be disappointed in any way :-) Thank you for letting me share my views on this with you. Please enjoy it :-) ~Jan
Free Music Review: This ain't no new age music.... Hit: 5 Stars
...and it's awesome. I'd call this more contemporary world music. There are nice rhythms, bass, voices, electronica, and even digeridoos (sp). Sometimes you get multiple ethnic feels in one song; African, Asian, even celtic. Traveling all over the world seems to have influenced Yanni's music...and for the better in my opinion.
It's not ambient or soundscape music, nor sweeping orchestral, and definitely not new age. But it is good. And oddly enough, even though it's not new agey or ambient, you can still find yourself able to listen to it while concentrating/intuiting on your own projects and not be overwhelmed by music screaming out "Listen to me!" If you pay more attention, you'll hear lots going on, but likewise the music is also willing to be a background player to your own creative interests. Listening to this music ...I've had lots of great ideas bubble to the surface. Definitely a good CD in my book :)
