Free Music Notes for Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Free Music Review: thought they were the La's but I like the "Yeahs.."better
Hit: 5 Stars

I love this cd. the lyrics are so inspired and I can see this band becoming HUGE.The music is intense but I think that Art Star is almost a bit humorous. I normally dont purchase cds because I feel like they are fads unless you get something classic like The Doors. I think however that I will make an exception for Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Join with me it will be a revolution!

Free Music Review: I'll give all their albums five stars! This band is Amazing!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Now when I say this band's amazing.I mean they've set a standard of being off the wall, and that's great. To me they're absolutely not generic, they don't have a sixties, seventie's or eighties sound,at all, except for a slight punky sound, that I guess I'll be willing to over look. But,to me they sound more like a loungy ,swanky, styled rock band.Kind of like a spead up really hyper enthusiastic version of Mazzy Star.As a matter of fact, all the band's that people compare them to that I've heard,Suck!!!The White Stripes, the KILLS,Green Day,The Strokes,to me this band sounds WAY,WAY different, and a billion times better. And that's good, because alot of those other bands symbolize a retro sound that I don't like, and will never miss. Now if this band wanted to sound as totally generic, and lame as the other's.Well then I'm sorry to misinterprit them, and this album, and their other one Fever to Tell. It's in my personal opinion that the Yeah,Yeah,Yeah's are on a totally higher level than those other bands. Now whether or not they know this,I don't know, but now as we speak they headline for the White Stripes, and the White Stripes should thank their lucky stars that their no talent behinds can even wittness the Yeah,Yeah,Yeahs.

And I'm not talking musical talent,as far as the guitars, and drums are concerned,if that was the case none of the these bands would have, really any talent.I'd just listen to the stuff I've been listening to,and playing, practically all my life, and that would be,Power Metal.(You see I've been playing guitar quite excellently for 10 year's now,and I'm 23 today)!and I'd of never found this diamond in the rough if I didn't reavaluate what it really takes to be a good sounding band.Karen O's amazing, and unique, totally uncopied vocals, make this band.Along with the fun, totally simple, yet hum worthy lerics. My only problem with this album, and some of the other one,is that it's hard to listen to her singing about what she'd like to do dirty wise to a man. When I am one!Okay,it's not that hard,to listen to HER sing it,SHE'S A WOMAN,think about it!She sound's great.I just don't want people to think I share her views, and ideas. In short it's just not something you want to blare out you'r car.Unless ofcourse you're gay,in which I'm totally, absolutely not!Either way I highly reccommend this album,If you hate Punk Rock,or if you love it.That really doesn't matter with this album, because the good's will really out way the bad's.

Free Music Review: Well well well!
Hit: 5 Stars

I absolutely love all of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's material. But I'll try not to rave (too much) about this spectacular band in this review. This EP is where my fascination with the YYY's began; it is slim, yes, after all, it is only an EP. (Some critics seem to forget that album length is not one of the qualities of an EP). Anyhoo. I understand (and agree) with a lot of the musical comparisons people are making to the YYY's; among them, PJ Harvey, Chrissie Hynde, The White Stripes, et many many alii (there seems to be some sort of musical comparison, however far-fetched, for every YYY's song). . . However, even though this band definitely seems to have been influenced by a variety of other (mostly garage-type) bands, I'd like to view them in an isolated manner; i.e., as their "own band". And I'm oh so very tired of naysayers of some really great new bands out there whining about the so-called "revivalist" rock movement. "Is there nothing original anymore?!" they proclaim in exaggerated angst, tugging away at their goatees. This sort of thinking/complaining has been occuring since the beginning of that timeless and honorable genre we call "rock and roll". How soon many forget that a supersensational group like the Beatles weren't entirely original, either. Anyhoo. On to the YYY's EP. "Bang" kicks it off with a supersexual, supersexy, "come hither" attitude which just about knocked my indie socks right off the first time I heard it. Karen O howls about "needing the real thing tonight" in an electrifyingly powerful and femme manner. . . "Art Star" explodes onto the "art scene" (if you will) with unrestrained energy and irreverence. Totally out of control. The music complements Karen's now-frantic, now-sweet, vocals most (unconventionally) gracefully. An extremely tight-woven song; intermittently blatant aural attack and soothingly soulful massage. . . "Miles Away" is my favorite on the EP. Many many nights have I spent driving (and singing/ screeching along) to this mind-blowing tune. . . also "picturing people in a better world". . . "Our Time" tones the otherwise totally frenetic energy of this EP down, just a notch or two. It's not the most complex song, but it's totally captivating. Karen's vocals are absolutely enchanting. She is a siren with the ability to lure her fans (unknowingly and ultimately uncaringly) to just about anywhere. What we have here is a very talented trio of "hipsters" (as they are so often called), who have all the talent, drive, and that ineffable "it" to continue marking their territory in "indieland", and to endure. Flavor of the month? as many critics/naysayers like to claim. Hardly. Oh, no. Hype, schmype. These kids have enough talent, energy, vibrance, charisma, and on and on, to keep their fans very very happy for a very long time. Well, at least they've got me dancing in my Docs. Oh, yeah, and if you ever get the chance, do go see them play live. . .their live shows are like a rock and roll rollercoaster ride, leaving you dizzy and wanting more more more. . .

Free Music Review: Great
Hit: 4 Stars

Just an EP, but a great listen. Saw live at the Great American in SF.... best live show i've seen in a couple of years.

Free Music Review: um...yeah
Hit: 3 Stars

I avoided the 60's garage revival like the plague but Karen and her boys I couldn't resist. This is so vibrant I don't care. It rocks, it pounds, it chirps, it winks at you--it'll make you f'n' dance.
