Free Music Notes for Show Your BonesFree Music Review: a good second effort Hit: 3 Starsa good album. The songs are more intelligent and the disc over all is polished.
Free Music Review: No No No!!!! Hit: 2 StarsOk. I have now lost my patience with this band. I bought the EP...not great. The first CD was boring and the live DVD was dismal. Crap. Simply because band members are extravagant and seem to have lots of personality does not a great band make.
Free Music Review: yes yes yes Hit: 5 StarsThis album was a fabulous surprise. I've been inexpicably resisting the yeah yeah yeahs since they first hit the scene. I, by chance, came across a track and was surprised that it sounded good. I went out and bought Show Your Bones the next day and was blown away by it. When I listen to it I hear a little Siouxie, a little Walkmen, and I could hear the influence of 90's Brit Pop- -but not overwhelmingly so. Karen O is a strong singer and the band's music complements her vocals perfectly. If you like "alternative" music you'll love this album.
Free Music Review: Good record? Yeah yeah yeah it is Hit: 4 StarsI'm so happy there is a band like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs around today. They are a band that hits all the right notes for me. They are band I will always go see when they are in my area. Listening to them always fits the bill no matter what mood I am in. I bought this cd the first day it came out. I was blown away by the last 3 songs on Fever to Tell, while I liked the rest of that album, those last 3 songs (Maps, Y Control, Modern Romance) assured me I would undoubtedly buy their next record. I didn't immediately dig this album as much as Fever to Tell, but over a little time it won me over. The album is certainly less chaotic than the last, Karen O sounds more relaxed, Zinner is in usual fine Zinner form, echoing cool vibrations from his guitar amp, and Chase is good also, he's a drummer with a really unique style. The highlights for me are Cheated Hearts, Turn Into, and Dudley. Cheated Hearts is perfect and has an irresistable melody, Turn Into is my favorite YYY's song. I get lost in Zinner's guitar solo on that one, the sound effect he uses, I don't know quite what it is, but it's effective. The album is full of good, yeah yeah yeah go get it.
Free Music Review: Just not right.. Hit: 3 StarsI wanted to like this album SO much, really I did and then I bought it and frankly I was disappointed. Maybe I'm just a purist and I don't like the change in sound... but thats not it. There is something thats intangible thats missing from this album that was so very prevalent in the first two. The single Gold Lion was just such a disappointment after songs like Maps or Modern romance. The only songs I really enjoyed on this album was phenomena, way out and turn into. I miss the crazy guitar riffs and throat ripping screeches of Art star. Call me stupid or silly if you will but honestly this album did not live up to what Fever to tell and Yeah Yeah Yeahs promised. I won't say out right that it was horrible. Maybe if it hadn't been the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and it had been someone I didn't know then maybe I wouldn't be sitting here saying that I didn't like it. If you look back on the YYY's none of the songs are anything like the wild over the top songs that won them their fan base in the first place.
Gold lion starts out with a really good intro you expect it to turn into some all out bash fest of the drums but what comes is that beat going through the entire song(and it gets annoying real fast). The lyrics aren't horrid but they aren't superb either It's not a bad song but it isn't worth the things people have been saying about it.
I like way out actually it's good it doesn't have that annoying boom boom tat in the background which is good it's a little muted for the YYY's but I mean they're trying something new it isn't bad it's a good song but it isn't yeah yeah yeahs
That more or less summarizes the entire cd for me it wasn't yeah yeah yeahs it was some weird transmogrified version of the yeah yeah yeahs that got melted together with some lesser band. it's not bad. It's just not what I hoped for at all and for those die hard Yeah Yeah Yeahs fans out there it's not what they're going to expect maybe they'll like it maybe they won't but it's not going to be what you expect or hope for from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It's an OK album thats all I can say for it.
