Free Music Notes for Show Your BonesFree Music Review: Um Im not a music uberdude Hit: 4 StarsBut I am an old dude. A lot of todays music is taken (borrowed) from the recent past. Im in love with this album, but must give props to the appropriate mentors.
Number 1 being Souixxe and the banshees. I hear them in every note and somewhat in her voice. Great stuff though. I am partial to the original band, but this derivative, influence, and or just love of the band has great impact on their sound. History in music comes in 5 years of memory. I am so happy that, and not sure, they meant a tribute to Souixxe. All together a great melodic trip, and very powerful.
Free Music Review: Better than anything they have done... Hit: 5 StarsI own both major label disks from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and I am gonna have to say that this is by far the best of the two. They are just an amazing band that has improved ten-fold. I saw them live years back, and they were great, and to hear on this album how far they have come since then makes me really want to see them again. The first half of the album is better than the last half, but it doesn't matter, it is an all around great album, and well worth your money.
Free Music Review: The YYYs continue to refine and grow their sound Hit: 5 StarsShow your bones is definitely a more melodic and less punky album than Fever To Tell, but it's just as likely to grab a hold of you. As always, critics and fans are hesitant to embrace this new sound because it's different than the previous directions the YYYs have taken, and likely because such a high bar was set for the band when Rolling Stone compared their innovative sound and style to the impact the Velvet Underground had on the 60s garage scene.
Show Your Bones showcases how the band is continuing to grow into itself. The driving counterpoint between the vocals and guitar is more powerful and effortless than ever before, and Karen O has taken her creative vocals to another level, using her trademark screams, moans, cries, and whispers less for emphasis and shock and more as melodic tools. The result is a sound that fits so well together; songs that are melodically simple but remarkably compelling.
The most interesting songs on the album are Phenomenon, Warrior, and Cheated Hearts. Phenomenon showcases some surprising hard rock/blues guitar style, contrasting with siren-like moaning. Warrior showcases almost alt-country song style and mournful story-telling, another suprising style choice.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs always have a song on each album that includes self-referential commentary on how the media and their fans seem to be perceiving them. On their self-titled EP this song was Our Time, and its anthem was "it's the time to be hated; I'm glad that we made it". The corresponding song on Show Your Bones is Cheated Hearts, and its anthem is, "I think that I'm bigger than the sound!" I have to agree.
Free Music Review: 50000000 stars! AMAZING Hit: 5 StarsThis was one of the most amazing CDs I have ever listened to. I can't say any more than it is addicting and freaking AWESOME.
Free Music Review: Quit being mopey mope mopes... Hit: 4 StarsI'm amazed at all the negative reviews of this disc. To be sure, there were high expectations after Fever to Tell and you would expect some polarization from fans after a release that didn't sound like FTT Pt.II. The reviews however, were less than fair and quite vicious, and I did not have the heart to stand by idly while some particularly moronic specimens bashed the album. Enter my first ever review. Apologies in advance for any misspellings.
As far as I feel about the album, it is a great addition to my musical collection and I look forward to enjoying it for a long time as well as introducing other people to it. Some great songs, a few average ones, and one song that is so played out it will only sound good again in 2010. I give the album 4 stars. I would recommend listening to the samples provided by Amazon and buying it if you like what you hear. I would not recommend buying this album because you loved Fever To Tell, or because you think the YYYs are the voice of your inner punk child.
As far as I feel about the reviews, instead of reading that useless drivel try checking out the forums where apparently people more frequently think before they type their constructive criticisms. Be warned - they usually use bigger words than "sucks" and "bad", and when they have to at least they back their opinions up with something more ingenious than saying it doesn't sound like FTT.
As far as I feel about the reviewers, of course we all are entitled to our opinions, but maybe some of us should learn how to better express ourselves and formulate more complex sentences than "...it also is a disappointment because if they were to use their odd parts of the song, create a whole album from that, and somehow make it work, they would rank much much higher..." Sure they would. So would anyone. Try this next time: "I didn't find this album to be as catchy and funky as FTT, and it sounded more mainstream. I would have liked to hear something more eclectic because I think the YYYs have the skill to pull it off and should leave mainstream music to less talented bands."
And to all the wankers who spent less than a minute typing hateful biased unintelligent garbage, you'll probably not understand the full impact of that word, which I think perfectly sums you up.
Good day, thanks for your time, and here's to moving forward.
