Year of the Rabbit, however, marked Ken's first real rock and roll excursion since leaving Failure, and so I was instantly intrigued. I picked up their EP off yearoftherabbit.net and instantly fell in love, downloading live bootlegs and getting really into the band, as they had the same sound and tone as Failure, my favorite group from years past.

I was priveleged enough to see Year of the Rabbit perform live at Studio 7 in Seattle just recently, and I was blown away by their magnificent live set, which sounded every bit as good as the album itself. The album's eleven tracks are fantastically mastered, with stand-out ballads like "Lie Down" and "Hold Me Up" countered by hard-hitting rock from "Absent Stars" and "River." My favorite track by far is the soul-baring "Last Defense," though the singles "Rabbit Hole" and "Hunted" are the ones which have received radio play thus far in limited sets. If you're at all considering buying this album, do yourself a favor and just shell out the money. You'll become a lifelong fan.
