Free Music Notes for Yellow Submarine (Songtrack)Free Music Review: Get the original version - DON'T BE FOOLED BY THIS REISSUE! Hit: 2 Stars...Introduction - Yellow Submarine is the soundtrack to the Beatles film of the same name. It was released originally circa 1969, and was recently reissued - or was it?They've butchered a Beatles classic. Here's the tracklist for the original version: 1. Yellow Submarine 2. Only a Northern Song 3. All Together Now 4. Hey Bulldog 5. It's All Too Much 6. All You Need Is Love 7. Pepperland 8. Sea of Time 9. Sea of Holes 10. Sea of Monsters 11. March of the Meanies 12. Pepperland Laid Waste 13. Yellow Submarine in Pepperland Two previously released songs, as well as several unreleased songs. Half of them are standard Beatles songs, and half are orchestral songs from the film. And here's the tracklist for the new version: 1. Yellow Submarine 2. Hey Bulldog 3. Eleanor Rigby 4. Love You To 5. All Together Now 6. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds 7. Think For Yourself 8. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 9. With A Little Help From My Friends 10. Baby, You're A Rich Man 11. Only A Northern Song 12. All You Need Is Love 13. When I'm Sixty Four 14. Nowhere Man 15. It's All Too Much Notice something? The two previously released songs and all the unreleased Beatles songs are here, BUT THE ORCHESTRA MUSIC IS GONE! They've replaced it with remixes of several previously released tracks! What a rip! They even had room to fit the orchestra music on the CD, but didn't! This is a bitter disappointment. Now, the old (and good) version of this CD is being phased out in favor of this so-called remaster. If you decide to get this album, DON'T GET THE NEW REMASTER. Get the original one instead, even if it's harder to find.
Free Music Review: Buy The Original Version Instead! Hit: 1 StarsBuy the original version before it goes out-of-print.This new version is not merely "remastered", it's "remixed". They moved all the vocals to the middle. I don't care who did the remix, it's pretty bad. And of course, they left out George Martin's beautiful instrumental music even though there was room to fit it on the disc. I guess they figure that today's brain-dead listeners aren't interested in songs without lyrics.
Free Music Review: Like Dubwise Hit: 5 StarsThis album kinda reminds me of Laswell's reconfiguration of Marley's music. Mixed to wonderful effect so that you can appreciate the details. It's different than the 'Stones Abkco reissues that are "the same, only better". But like the 'Stones reissues, fun as heck to A>B with the original versions. As long as the original mixes remain in print, I don't have a problem with this album. After all, it was produced by George Martin.
Free Music Review: Great new mixes of classics and far outshines soundtrack Hit: 5 StarsThe Songtrack for Yellow Submarine is a better investment than the Soundtrack version. The Yellow Submarine soundtrack features only four original songs, Hey Bulldog, All Together Now, Only a Northern Song and It's All Too Much, plus Yellow Submarine and All You Need is Love. The remainder of the disk is the orchestral score written by George Martin, and while it has its moments, it's not something that I would listen to over and over. Of the originals, I like Hey Bulldog and It's All Too Much. All Together Now is a children's sing-along, with some lyrics you might not want the children singing. Only a Northern Song is a cynical George Harrison composition with little in the way of melody or interesting lyrics. The message is, it doesn't really matter what we write, you'll devour it. Hey Bulldog, a little meanie from John Lennon, has a great rhythm groove and some biting lead guitar. Great for cranking up in the car. It's All Too Much is full of feedback, reverb, and waves of guitars. This disk also collects an odd assortment of songs that span from Rubber Soul to Magical Mystery Tour. These are probably the most "visual" songs, aka psychedelic, that worked well with the animated medium presented in the film. What a coup to pull Nowhere Man, Eleanor Rigby and Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds into one set. There are also the lesser known nuggets like George Harrison's Love You To and Think For Yourself. The remastering gives all these songs a fresh makeover. Well worth adding to your collection.
Free Music Review: This is not the real Yellow Submarine Record! Hit: 3 StarsHowever swell the remastering job, this is not the Yellow Submarine album... it's completely missing George Martin's excellent instrumental work from the movie soundtrack, and as such it's revisionist history, done to pump up sales.Buy it if you like the songs that follow All You Need Is Love, (they're all great songs), but do so with the knowledge that you are not getting the Yellow Submarine album as the Beatles and George martin intended it to be. Only half of that album is here.
