Free Music Notes for The Underdog EPFree Music Review: don't forget this one! Hit: 5 Stars
This is Yellowcard's second album with current singer Ryan Key and probably their least known. Because it is an EP and only has five songs, most people don't pay any attention to it, don't be one of those people. All five songs are super good and all worth listening too, over and over. Each of the songs, though obviously different from the other four in subject matter, are all about struggle and hard times. The first song, Underdog, is about a kid who is picked on and beat up by bullies. There is hope in the song though with lines like, "you'll show them one day, you are not the same" and, "you won't be the last one anymore." Avondale, the album's second song, and the best if you ask me, and you should, is about betrayal. Finish Line is the third song and is about leaving someone behind and the difficulties of being away from someone you care about. The fourth song, Powder, is about a friend's drug addiction and trying to overcome it. Rocket is the last song on the Underdog EP and is much slower and softer than most of Yellowcard's songs. When I first heard it, I didn't really care for it and usually didn't listen to it; once I actually gave it a fair chance though, I realized that I had been missing out. I am not quite sure what it is about this song but it gets inside of you and then you are hooked. It is mellow and rhythmic and you feel like you are inside the song. This whole album, all five songs of it, is awesome and deffinately should not be looked over when considering Yellowcard.

I don't know how anyone can not like these guys... i could listen to them for hours on end. i <3 every song on this EP. 1.Underdog- "to find your heart that the quarterback pump dropped on the ground" my personal fav. line. the whole song just puts you in this "i can do anything" mood. Priceless. 2.Avondale- one of YC's darkest, if not THE darkest song. the lyrics are highly effective and when you first hear them you're taken aback for a second. "If you're gonna rip my heart out could you use a knife that's dull & rust in color?" "i stuck a knife into his back, inventiveness is what i lack" not the most peppy song for sure, but if you don't bob ur head to this, i've lost all hope in you. 3.Finish Line- a great song written by a great band dedicated to another great band (the Starting Line). How could you go wrong? Great melody and plays off on TSL lyrics i.e. "I'm not leaving you" just a great song. 4.Powder- i crack up every time i listen to this song(no pun intended haha)! Not many bands could pull off a serious song about cocaine esp. w/ a chrous like "crush it up,crush it up,take it down, take it down" somehow YC did it tho. amazing. 5.Rocket- ryan's voice in this song always seems to pull me in. beautiful violin chords and a great chrous. when it goes into the hard bassline the song just gets more depth. another great song, what can i say? All 5 songs on this EP are either 9/10 or 10/10 for me. More <3 for YC.
Free Music Review: Magnificant Hit: 5 Stars
I didn't honestly think these guys could do it. I'm not going to try to hide my feelings anymore. After "One for the Kids," I didn't think it would be humanly possible for the band to outdo themselves..every single song on that CD was brilliant, and their poppy, catchy melody accented with the violin is nearly unbeatable. Somehow, by some insane chance, they did it again with this 5-song EP on FBR (though I believe the band is signed to Capitol). "Underdog" immediately pulls the listener in for one of the most insane rides through innovation and non-stop catchy melodies and constantly sickening guitar riffs that just don't stop. It's one hell of a catchy tune, as are all the songs (by the band, for that matter), and although the lyrics are simple ("one more trip down, to the lost and found, to find your heart that the quarterback punk stomped on the ground"), the blending of guitar and violin are insanely brilliant. "Avondale" doesn't stop the rock, and for the first time Ryan (or Sean, whoever) breaks into a slight scream at a point. Magnificent. Finish Line and Powder are also both equally as great, and then "Rocket" blasts off into a slow progressive rock ballad that just kills. This EP is by far the best 5 consecutive songs I have ever heard by any band in my long life of emo/pop punk rock. Not getting it would be a sin.
Free Music Review: Great Band Hit: 5 Stars
People are somewhat overly appalled by this bands violin player. I mean he's cool and all but thats not wut makes this band great. The lead off song and also the title of the EP, Underdog, is probably my favorite song. It's a great song with great lyrics. Yellowcard has an awesome singer and his voice is what makes the songs so good. 1. Underdog 10/10, a great lead off song, good lyrics, gives hope to losers ( jk) 2. Avondale 9/10, a good melody and chorus, but im not to fond of the lyrics, especially the slow part 3. Finish Line 10/10, the first song i heard by this band, and the reason i bought the EP, its a great song, with a catchy melody 4. Powder 7/10, an ok song. A little slow, but the chorus is cool 5. Rocket 9/10, a good slow song, i really like the part where the overdrive part comes in and the song gets harder. This is a great baand and i highly recommend this EP
Free Music Review: buy it ... NOW!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Although it's only 5 songs long, `The Underdog EP' is definitely worth it! Even if you're not a HUGE fan of Yellowcard, you can't deny the true talent of these guys and the greatness of this album. Even to this day, it's still one of my favorites! It has the mix of sugar-high feel and awesome lyrics that make Yellowcard soooo awesome ... but I can't forget to mention the hard-core feel of `Avondale' which the guys still play at all their shows! If you haven't yet checked these guys out, I HIGHLY recommend you to! And while you're at it, be sure to pick up their other albums as well ... they're just as eclectic as this one! As I say in each review that I do on these guys, they're truly talented and the best thing to EVER have come out of Jacksonville - even better than Skynyrd! And as a dirty south baby - born and raised - I like to think I know what I'm talking about!!!
