Free Music Notes for Yes Album

Free Music Review: Genesis
Hit: 5 Stars

I really believe that this is the genesis of Prog Rock as a movement (i also believe that prog rock started with Sgt Pepper)..but as a movement, as a wave, this is the album that started all (for me). This is the first SUPER album of the genre. It has everything : great performances great melodies, long songs, short songs....magic. Explore it....

Exploralo.

Free Music Review: Yes' Best Early Album
Hit: 5 Stars

THE YES ALBUM is the best album of Yes' progressive/art-rock phase, before the group's indulgences got the better of them. It's true that "I've Seen All Good People" hasn't aged particularly well, but "Starship Trooper" expresses the opinion that isolationism leads to such behaviors as intolerance for regionalistic speech, and the songs "Perpetual Change" and "A Vision" contain cautionary lyrics that inspire me to look at pictures of pretty actresses as a deterrent to self-indulgence and/or complacency. The band members' belief that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia on drug-smuggling charges was unjustly convicted makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

Free Music Review: Just a slight notch below Close to the Edge
Hit: 5 Stars

The second greatest rock album of all time IMO. Only one song gets skipped on my CD player ("Venture"). The other five songs are Yes (and ProgRock) classics. "Starship Trooper" is one of my five favorite Yes tunes, "Yours Is No Disgrace" and "All Good People" are also 10's, and "Perpetual Change" is an underrated great tune. Steve Howe's "The Clap" is catchy and upbeat. The first of the "Spectacular Six" Yes albums of the 70's (along with "Fragile", "Close to the Edge", "Relayer", "Tales from Topographic Oceans" and "Going for the One").

Free Music Review: a classic that still holds up
Hit: 5 Stars

after the excesses of yes, elp, and others, the new wave and punk scene appealed to me a great deal (and still does). it wasnt until recently that i bought this cd used, and was suprised at how well it had held up over the years. yeah, it never was about the lyrics with yes, but you cant criticize the excellent musicianship and use of the studio. if anything, steve howe is a bit underated, bill bruford is surgical with his drum style, and no one quite plays bass like chris squire. mix in electronics and keyboards with jon anderson's clear voice and yes had a recipe for success that topped most of the other pro-rock bands. reccomended.

Free Music Review: A Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

The Yes album was Yes' third album which was a make or break album for the band. If this album didn't sell well Atlantic was going to cut them. The band didn't have to worry about that because every single one of the songs on this album are masterpieces! Starting with the opening track Yours is no disgrace and finishing up with the album closer Perpetual Change. My favorite song on this album (and one of my all time favorite songs in general) is Starship Trooper. If your a fan of Prog Rock or just starting to get into the band Yes start here. You won't be disappointed.
