Free Music Notes for I Can Hear the Heart Beating as OneFree Music Review: Mellow gold Hit: 5 StarsI Can Hear... occupies a specific place in my music collection, as I think it probably does for most of its fans. It's a breathtakingly simple, soft record of astonishing power - an elegiac record of tender understatement. I put on this record to hear something peaceful that's still complicated, one that represents a gamut of emotions hiding under a slick, barely moving surface. It sounds a bit like Neil Young as reinterpreted by My Bloody Valentine, and the result is 16 songs of varying mood - lilting to boppity and back again - but of one common goal, to represent love and life in the subtlest moods possible. Yo La Tengo did that on a slew of records, but I Can Hear... is their most ambitiously earnest and alluring to date.
Free Music Review: One of the best albums...Ever. Hit: 5 StarsI've had this CD for 5 years now and I still listen to it on a regular basis. There's a little something for everyone on this CD: Instrumentals, catchy pop, distortion, a cover of a Beach Boys tune, bossa nova, and a country song. This is Yo La Tengo's masterpiece and one of the best albums ever.
Free Music Review: ? Hit: 1 StarsMy friend wanted me to check out this group, so I listened to her entire album and wait...I didn't cause I fell asleep. This is a group that has very boring music, and downtempo isn't the word for it.They need to step it up or get stepped on.
Free Music Review: Who's on first... Hit: 5 StarsPavement gets all the credit for creating the 90s indie rock sound, and I have to say Pavement is truly great. But I think people neglect the importance of Yo La Tengo. To me, they are the Velvet Underground of the 90s. Basically comprised of one couple and a few other musicians brought in as necessary, this band blends pop harmonies and a strong sense of melody with sonic dissonance and feedback. In some songs, you'd swear you were hearing a warmer, friendlier Sonic Youth. In others, the band sounds like folk-rockers from the 1960s. There's variety here, versatility, and creativity. Something missing from a lot of pop music these days. I recommend this one and "Fakebook," along with "Painful," as a good overall introduction to the Yo La Tengo sound.
Free Music Review: boring Hit: 1 StarsThis band is so boring. What kind of bland, insipid people listen to this.
