Free Music Notes for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

Free Music Review: Eclectic and Engaging
Hit: 5 Stars

This soundtrack is surprisingly broad in its sounds and texture, everything from nu-metal to electronica to acoustic folksy. Though the more metal tracks, such as Run Rabbit Junk and Yakitori don't really do it for me, they are still listenable. Stand out tracks are the Vespertine-orphan "Where Does This Ocean Go?", the introspective "Some Other Time", and the liquid but insistent "Silent Cruise". I bought this for "Inner Universe", easily one of the best tracks I've heard in ages. It's reason enough for the CD, but you'll be ecstatic over the rest of it, as well. Only real problem: Velveteen and Lithium Flower have been scrunched onto one track, throwing the track listing off. No biggie, easily fixed. If you see a copy of this, get it, by all means. I got mine on eBay for six bucks; seems like a lot of dealers bought them up and are doing them in their online stores. Worth tracking down.

Free Music Review: Worth buying for the song "Inner Universe" alone
Hit: 5 Stars

Having being a fan of the TV series, I found my way into the music from Ghost in the Shell. Both the animation and the music are first class.

The music is a very agreeable mix of styles - world, blues, techno and something that can't be easily defined.

"Inner Universe" is a piece of music I listen to over and over again. It impressed me a lot and I am sometimes very hard to impress! ;-)) (check out my other reviews)

The Japanese do marvellous things with music and even when they tackle familiar musical styles, there is always a very beguiling "sense of otherness" in the results. Always great to hear Western musical styles absorbed and then presented in a new, fresh and slightly "alien" manner.

Full marks to Ms Yoko Yanno - composer and pianist. I will be searching for and enjoying more of this lady's music in the future.

Free Music Review: A brilliant soundtrack for a beautifully imagined series
Hit: 5 Stars

Well the title says it all. I bought the soundtrack after buying Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex. As well as containing the songs in the title and credits (Inner Universe and Lithium Flower respectivly) this album contains a whole range of music used in the series. It varies from a quite mechanical rocky sound to some very smooth mellow pieces. I also quite liked the inclusion of Get9 and Rise at the end, both TV versions so shorter but still very good. I would say that if you found yourself thinking "this is good music" as you watched the series then buy this album. Of particular note (my favourites) are Lithium Flower, Inner Universe, Some Other Time and Velveteen.

Of course this album wont be to everyones taste, but anyone who is a fan of Stand Alone complex will enjoy and appreciate Yoko Kanno's work.

Free Music Review: Another reason i love anime so much...
Hit: 5 Stars

When you get soundtracks like this it only fuels the fire you have for anime that much more. I couldnt help but be compelled to buy this. But after hearing "Rise Tv Size" on the GitS anime. I didnt understand the language but i knew that i loved the music and what the singer was singing and along with "Inner Universe". I made the leap and purchased this and the 2nd volume of the Stand Alone Complex. It has wide ranging styles for people with different tastes. From pop to dance to hip-hop it has all those flavors and then some. Great soundtrack, excellent music production and writing make for a welcome addition to anyone's music collection.

Whether your an anime fan or not. Ghost in The Shell: Stand Alone Complex is more than worth the price of admission and then some.

Free Music Review: Magnificent
Hit: 5 Stars

I hurried up and bought this CD after I saw that Yoko Kanno did the soundtrack. As usual, she doesn't dissapoint. I love this CD so much I take it everywhere I go with me and listen to it when I go to sleep. The soundtrack is a wonderful hybrid of all types of sounds; from the 70's rock jam session of "yaikitori" to the funkadelic "home stay" this album offers your ear an audio entree of delight.
Kanno doesn't stray away from the dark electronic sounds of the ghost in the shell atmosphere, either. Tracks like "Sutamina Roozu" sound like they would fit in perfectly with the origional film.
Whether you are an anime fan, a Yoko Kanno fan, or just a fan of good music in general, don't miss out on this CD. You'll only be thankful that you bought it.
