Free Music Notes for Walking on Thin Ice AlbumFree Music Review: "Best of...", well not exactly. Hit: 3 StarsOn this album, a 19 track sampler of the 6 cd Onobox, we find many highlights than one would expect of a Yoko Ono "best of" package. The title track, her biggest hit to date, along with the dance club favorite "Hell in Paradise" are featured here, as well as other fine moments one would expect such as the singles "Death of Samantha", "Midsummer New York", "Woman Power", "No, No, No", and the arguably double A-side "Kiss, Kiss, Kiss". Other fine moments from her solo albums are included as well, but in some cases, not the ones that do her justice as a singer or songwriter. Most notably missing is "Move on Fast", Yoko's finest rock record to date. The track was featured on Onobox in a wonderfully remixed version and very well should have been considered for this compilation. Also missing are the beautiful insightive ballads "Run, Run, Run", and "I Want My Love to Rest Tonight". It is obvious why freeform jams such as "Why" or "Don't Worry Kyoko" were not included, since the album is trying to promote a more commercially accessible Yoko, but by doing so limits the depiction of the wide range of musical styles Yoko has covered during the course of her career. Actually, other than "Woman Power", her 'Feeling the Space' album has no other representation. Again, "Run, Run, Run" was a worthwhile choice for this collection as was the album's closer, "Men, Men, Men", but nontheless, the compilation features only the one track. I might recommend this as somewhat of an introduction to Yoko's music, however it doesn't come highly recommended. A better recommendation would be 'Approximately Infinite Universe'. This album was Yoko's transition from the Avant-Gard to what was to later become Alternative Rock, and showcases Yoko in many aspects.
