Well, I really don't understand what's to be liked in Yoko's music. I mean... After Lennon's death she has released many many albuns... and they all seem to go unnoticed. And her music seems to have gone nowhere...
She is probably one of the richest people on Earth (thanks to the Lennon/McCartney songbook) and she must be just doing what she likes to do - to sing.
But that doesn't make her music good.
I love the Beatles and I respect her very much (I don't know and I don't care if she did or did not break up The Beatles) and I tried very hard to listen to her music many many times.
And I really like her very much. I do.
I tried to like her music... but I must face the truth: her music is awful. Her lyrics are dated. Her voice is bad. The production in the albums is bad. Her rhymes are cheesy. She seems to be recording the same five songs over and over. For those who adore her music, I just think she too overated. For those who don't... I don't blame them.
And that is sad because after John's death, I always hoped she would find her own success, writing, singing and recording with the best composers, musicians and producers in the business - just like the best.
But instead, everything around these recordings is third rate.
I am sorry to say... I wish I could see what other reviewers keep seeing in Yoko. Whatever it may be, it keeps eluding me.
I give her two stars because... well... I wanna be nice.
Free Music Review: YOKO, A VERY UNDERR ATED ARTIST...

For those of you who don't know, Yoko actually can hold a tune and sing her heart out. She's always been shown yelping or whaling in those old clips on documentaries or interviews. She can get down with a great groove, rock or jazz it up or sing a gentle ballad tenderly. She sometimes doesn't always have perfect pitch but the emotion is always clear. All in all, a terrific listen if you can handle her screeching and animal sounding noises she embellishes her music with.

c'mon, duane. why do you have the time to write 1-star reviews for albums you probably haven't even heard? jump on the bandwagon; "yoko sucks." actually, i quite like her. sure, she can be difficult, but she also can be an acquired taste. if you don't like her, you're not going to like her. reviews are superfluous. don't bother reading them - including this one.
however, if you are willing to experiment and are truly a fan of alt-rock (not the green day swill that duane seems to prefer, thus setting his age at around 9), try it out. buy it used. sell it to someone else if you don't like it.
but you WILL have a reaction, which is the point of music, isn't it? you might hate it. so be it. you might love it. good for you! you might say, "huh?" ok, so you took a chance.
here's a dare; buy john coltrane's "blue trane" and "interstellar space." most fans of jazz would like the first and hate the last. but if you have an open mind, you might hear something of value in both.
so to quote someone familiar:
"if it don't feel right, you don't have to do it. just leave a message on the phone and tell [duane] to screw it."

Don't fall for the hype. Yoko Ono's music is different, but not bizarre. Sure, she yelps and screams and moans on a few songs, but if anything that makes the case that her music was ahead of its time. I especially like the Bluesy-Rock of "Death of Samantha" and the Reggae-Pop of "Don't Be Scared". Her songs are unique; her voice is distinctive. This is not for Mariah fans.
